Once Applied for first time SSI!

Do SSI people ask you to come to their office for further appointments after the first time you apply for SSI?

How many times have you gone to SSI office to finally get your payment?

And after you get approved, do you need to go to SSI office to pick up your money every month?

Do SSI people really want to see you in person after first time you applied for SSI?

I know these are bogus questions but I have to apply and move to my native country for a few months because I don't have enough money to live in the U.S and survive when waiting for their decision. My aunt will take care of any MAIL which come from SSI department. and will let me know about SSI decision. If I'm approved I will come back here and live here, if not I will stay in my native country.

Well, if you plan to apply for SSI then you have to make call them on your TTY and you will get your appointment. you have to let security guard know that you are deaf or disable then they will know and they will tell you to go in offica after they called your name and security guard will heard your name and let you know go to there.

also make sure to let them know if you need an interpreter too.

I don't know what you talking about... but yes, they will need talk to you in person and prove if you are disable.

you don't need go to SSI office to pick up your money every month and they will send to your mail for your paycheck every monthly.

Well, where you from come? SSI must have a require if you born in US or you have US citizen or Green Card too then you will able to get SSI paycheck if you are fully disable.

I'm an American citizen, and I'm hard of hearing and I wear Cochlear implant. I don't have insurance nor do I have a job. And I'm from Pakistan.

Okay so there my next questions is:

After applying for SSI, do SSI people call you for a periodic meeting in person?

mmm, it's hard question. SSI will probably think you can find a job because you wear Cochlear Implant and they might will denied your applies. but i suggest you to not wear your cochlear Implant because they will know you are fully deaf but you must have proof if you knew how to sign lanuage because they will bring an interpreter for you if you request for interpreter.

also you need to bring your own audiology report from doctor.
 
For all I know about SSI, you do not need to go to their office unless you have some issues to discuss about or change of address or got a job. Though you can send by mail about those things without needing to see them in the office. Or am I wrong? --- I never had SSI in my life. I tried to apply once, but I have "too much" money in the bank that time, the savings or CDs does count.

I recently applied so I haven't started getting payments yet. So far I've gone to the office once and have another appointment scheduled in about a week.

I hope you get your SSI.
 
it takes 1-3 months for the SSA office to determine if one is eligible or not. And as for payments, they can mail you a check or the money can be directly deposited into your bank account. Mine's direct deposit, easy enough.

Only went to the local SSA office once when applying, to go over the application and that sort of stuff. But the office will send you more paperwork to fill out and send back if they think you might be eligible (the first time I applied, I never got any more paperwork after applying a few years ago. 2nd time I applied, I got the paperwork, as did my relatives/friends and after that I was approved).

It takes the SSA time to determine your eligibility, as they have to get as much info as they can on you, your disability, etc. They have to get medical reports from doctors, audiological reports from audiologists, etc. etc. If you don't have recent medical/audiological proof of your deafness/disability, the SSA will have you go for a hearing test or check up or whatever (they will pay for the appointment) so they have the most recent info to make sure you are CURRENTLY disabled/deaf, etc. It's confusing stuff, but it's the government and they need to have that proof.

Yeah, I can't wait for get my SSI if they approve me! fuck man I can't wait forever... I really need this so badly because I really need my life get back to normal where I used to be.

Are you an American citizen? Why would you move back to your native country if you're an American???? You can get unemployment benefits since you paid the payroll tax. SSA will check with the IRS for any income earned more than $899 in any months....

Because of low cost of living with my family which is currently in Pakistan. I'm an American Citizen it means I've lived in America more than 5 years and got my Citizenship permission.

And well I can't get Unemployment because I'm unemployed more than 1 year. I just got to know about SSI a few months ago.

wel you gotta be careful. Anyone coming from Pakistan (who are ripping off our tax dollars according to the GAO) is on the watch list at the borders/airports.
Did your family lived with you the whole time in the U.S.? Your story doesn't make sense to me.

Yes. If you are receiving SSI, there will be a periodic review scheduled to determine continuing eligibility.

Depends on why you lost your job if you are eligible, but I would certainly apply and see what they say.
 
Thank you. all for the info. Well I know I don't have to apply now because I need someone to support me when waiting for SSI. If I got denied it will be very hard on me. So I'm not applying for SSI.

Well job loss is a very common now a days in America. My friend laid off he was an aircraft mechanic. I was also laid off from computer company. but it was happened 2 years ago when I didn't knew anything about my benefits which U.S govt gives it's citizen.

It's something like every year or 2... I can't remember for sure, it's in the SSI info booklet I got, I'd have to read through it again.
 
I applied online to begin with, but then had follow-ups in person. While there in person, since I can speak and did not know ASL, they used a computer that had "Dragon Naturally Speaking" on it and that basically "captioned" what the person was saying to me. We now do most everything by phone (I have a CapTel) and in person (I can read lips somewhat). I always take someone with me when I go in person.

While in Missouri, I was told that I would be re-tested after 2 years. I am now in Florida and was told that there is a back-log and it may be 3-5 before I am re-tested. I was also told that they may not re-test me based on what the audiologist and ENT wrote on my test results.

Basically, they put me in the booth for testing, turned me away from the front glass, turned the moirrors away from me, put the headphones on, then closed the door. What happened after, they told me abput when finished. It seems they turned the volume up to full blast on both ears and popped an enormous punch-ball in the microphone. I never flinched, but people in the rooms 3 doors down heard it. This was after they did all the usual tests. I have had all kinds of things done that still leave me with nightmares and I hope to never go through again while in my testing and examinations. Not everyone gets that treatment, but they couldn't understand my hearing loss until they were done.

All in all, I never really had a problem with the whole application process, just the way the chosen examiners did their job. I got approved within 3 months.
