I took B&W photography so I knew all the steps and had my own darkroom at home. But the negatives I had were old and different sized. My cousin who is a computer wiz told me about a scanner and I bought it, it had a light box, you put the negatives in and scan like a copier and you select the output and save to the computer, thats how I got all those pictures above, directly from old negatives. My dad and I also sat down so he could tell me who was who. I got tons more but cant find the other disks yet. Many many years ago I worked in a photo lab. For practice, they let me bring in a ton of old black and white photos to copy on this very non high tech machine.
Before my dad passed away, I took all those photos to him and we sat for a few hours with him telling me who everyone was. Great day...great memory.
If your Mom doesnt want to part with them, you can always run to a copy center and have a duplicate made, also save old photos to disk/flash drives so they will be safe.Old photos deteriorate over years.I had a photo of my grandfather's service in WWII but it's in my mom's possession. Maybe I'll look into getting a photo or two.
Great pics in this thread.
