Okay, I am confused!! I went for a

If you got an implant or hearing aid on government insurance then you were lucky, one of the fortante few.

Hmmm... I know several CIers (myself included) who had their surgery and subsequent mappings paid for by Medicaid/Medicare.

However, HAs are a different story and this also varies from state to state. I've worn HAs since 1985 and (knock on wood) have always had goverment assistance to purchase them.

hearing aids are cosmetic?
...

Er...that is a fancy way of saying that insurance companies don't want to be saddled with a huge expense. The bottom line is that HA serves a captive market and the market feels free to charge high prices for 'em.

then they should say the truth then.

Maybe a good lawyer could fight it. Ive never seen a hearing person wear a hearing aid to look cool.

I spent $1300 on my latest hearing aid. Would have rather used the money for something else.

Sometimes the state VRS will help pay for it...as for me, my health insurance through the school district will cover up to $1,000 for my new hearing aid...maybe you can check out your local Voc. Rehab. Services and see if they can help you. I don't care if I ever become rich - $1,300 is and will always be a lot of money to me.

As for the person who posted the thread - There are lots of reasons your ear might not process the CI - not everyone, and not every ear, can be implanted with a CI...what s/he had said to you does make sense...what the person failed to do (from what I gathered) was to explain to you WHY it won't process...anyway, did you ever get that second opinion? Hope you did. Good luck with whatever you decide to do :).
