okay ad'ers. ask me anything (but be nice! :))

Were you hearing before you lost the hearing?

Were you hearing before you lost the hearing?

yes i was.

i was diagnosed with mild hearing loss at age 3 (although my former hearing aid audis think it may be congenital due to the fact that newborns weren't given hearing screenings back in the late 60s/early 70s). hearing aids and ear surgery were recommended for me at this time, but for reasons i do not know, insurace failed to cover the cost.

by age 15, my loss became moderately-severe and i was given my first pair of bte aids.

i was able to communicate quite well until age 24 when my loss became severe-profound (profound left ear; severe-profound right ear). it was at this time that i began to learn tactile sign and other alternative communication techniques for the deafblind.

at the age of 34, i received my first ci and my second ci at age 35.

now at the age of 38 i hear at 20-30 dB across all frequencies and am totally deaf without my ci's. i'm able to hear quite well in one-on-one enviroments, but do have some difficulty in background noise so i rely on tactile sign or braille realtime captioning.

no. i'm not much into exotic foods and i HATE sushi!

however, i love mexican and italian dishes.

<GASP!> so do I. Mexican and Italian rocks my world. I don't even like my own country (Korean) food (just few I like). I like chinese/vietnamese food better.

I have one...How do you manage to get a 300+plus posts in you thread in just 3 days?

since most of the questions that have been asked here had to do with deafblindness, i'm guessing everyone was curious about what it's like to live from day to day being unable to see and hear.

mexican and italian food rules! if those were the only two types of food i were forced to live on until the day i leave this earth, i'd die a very happy woman! :D

and chinese food is good too! :)

Are there other deaf sites you use?
Why is AD better than other forums?
Would you chosse other sites that are better over this?
Would you considering leaving AD one day?

1. i DO love ad for a variety of reasons. i've met some very interesting people here, learned alot about deafness and have made many close friends with other ad'ers. another thing i love about ad compared to other forums is the fact that there's always a new thread and ad'ers are up posting even in the dead of night.

2. i used to participate on deafnotes, but eventually stopped posting because the board wasn't active enough for my liking.

3. long story short, everyone here is awesome. if truth be told, i've never been part of a forum where people have been so caring, friendly and accepting. also, i think it's great that all of you don't hold my bipolar against me or look down on me because i have two mental illnesses. i'm the kind of person who believes in being upfront with people about my bipolar and everyone here has warmly accepted me and have been understanding when my moods shift and i end up posting something i wish i hadn't. i also like the fact that all ad'ers warmly embrace the deafblind members here. i think that's great and it's something that some deafblind people don't see in their own local deaf communities.

4. no. i'm addicted to ad, so i spend most of my time here. :giggle:

5. i don't know about the future, but not right now. i love ad too much to leave. :D
