Oil is dropping. Why haven't grocery prices drop as well?

Beef is still too high, Dairy is still too high and other items are just too high. Why cant the government do something on these greedy farmers?
 
Really? This is not communist country, our economy is based on capitalism, these products u mentioned is commodity so, blame on stockholders instead.
 
Besides, prices now are based on cost of production from before the drop.

sad to say you got live in communist country if you want farmers do as you ask..
not all farmers are greedy and this applies to farmers world wide lots having tough time..
if want see price drop then consumers got change eating habits
 
price of oil has nothing to do with price of food. It's as DHB said-- capitalism...the government has nothing to do with the cost or how to price food & dairy.

Might want to read up before you post things like this.
 
food prices havent dropped, but oil prices have as we are using oil from our soil currently.... figures.

Obamacare use all private insurances then government subsidize the price.

It is more of capitalism-socialism hybrid, hardly communist.

If communist, it means government own ALL medical care.
 
There is a price floor on food. The way it works is that the government sets the lowest price food can be sold to make food very profitable. By doing this, it creates a lots of food producers and people always have access to food.

Food, at least here, is not pure supply and demand driven. It is much more complicated as we get food from all over the world.
 
B/c of the drought a lot places had this summer , it was reported on the news that the price of beef would be going . A lot of farmers lost all their crops from the drought then floods from too much rain at one time.

I can't remember the last time the farmers were "greedy". Most of them are operating on very narrow profit margin. That's why our agriculture sector is heavily subsidized by government to keep them afloat.

the only greedy evils here are Monsanto and some.

the cost of food is dependent on supply-demand, cost of business, and oil. if a crop was destroyed due to natural hazards (infestation, weather, etc.)... the cost goes up due to low yield. if oil price goes up, the cost goes up. if a certain crop is labor-intensive and expensive to grow, the cost goes up. if the cost was not adjusted as according to changing situations.... the farmers will be broke and may not survive the next season. the government can actually control or artificially inflate the cost of food since the agriculture sector is heavily subsidized.

The 'greedy' famers you are talking are a dying breed , we have a farm that been around for a 100 years and land is now for sale . The farmer would let people pick veggies for free , a mother came with small, wagon sand filed it up with veggies and I was told to help myself too.
And he also sold a hay and people said he had the best hay for horses at a good price. I am very sad to see this farm go b/c I loved to see the horses run in the field or working in it.
Now there will be some monster houses build there we'll have less open land . You should try growing a small garden and see how work has to go into it.
 
He forgot that farmers gets seriously minimum wage, lower than those who flips hamburgers, even waitress too.

Some greedy farmers exist. Dad worked with them. He is a soil scientist/ agronomist. He had been involved with irrigation projects for years. lol Irrigation is so important and it can help save water, but there have been debates about that. Some vegetables require more water than others. Almond is incredibly popular and requires lots of water. Asian countries keep importing them like crazy. Water is the big issue in California. Nobody forget that California is the nation’s leading producer. According to CA govt, 80 percent of water goes to agriculture. Hmm..

There are greedy people in every profession , the Joker was calling every
farmer greedy and that is not true. I worked a farm that was started to grow food for people that could not afford to buy fresh veggies or eggs . We had chickens , ducks and rabbits b/c some people like to eat them. The food was for free , we got paid about $50.00 a week to grow food. And our checks would bounce sometime but we still went to work . We got a rare snow storm in Berkeley and we had to go out to cover up the plants , we were not 'greedy' we were concerned about people being too poor to buy food.
I lived in Northern California and I know water was a big issues there. People that were lucky to have indoor plumping were very careful with their water. They took showers together men and women . And you could not put any toilet paper in the toilet you had to throw it into a bucket that got burnt .
I posted that guy was killed over a water hole , that how big a deal water was .

Tell me why the government forcing you to buy health insurance or pay a penalty. Thats the same crap use on Auto insurance. You must buy auto insurance in order to drive. Insurance is the biggest rip off in business. Just like if you buy homeowners insurance and something happens to your home sure they replace or rebuild your home but they raise your rates. Samething with auto insurance if you have an accident they raise your rates. now thats what i call communism.
