I like Mimsy Its a cute and unusual name. I am all for being different and non-comformist. Just ignore the smarta$$s who don't even have their own real pics in their Avatar. As for mine it just represents a part of me and my interests which I have posted elsewhere.

If you want to meet Deaf folks, but are shy, you might consider downloading the z4 app from zvrs.com on your computer and then VP'ing with someone you you find friendly or interesting.. Just PM them with your VP #.. don't post it in a public forum though. don't know what VP is you can get all explained at the website above...

I dont think we are "easily offended". we just call it out as we see it. Welcome to all deaf. just learn to ignore somewhat we might be offending you. hideout all you want, just hope you will stay for long time.

Now, my question to you if you like hiding out with us, why not get involved? become ASL interpreter? or work in deaf programs? etc. this would allow you to hideout more easily. since you posted you are from NYC, take a run over to gally and poke around during events . Now I am soo far away from NYC, not sure where the deaf hangouts are, but I know I would welcome you in person. There is nothing like taking in a hearie and watch them become a butterfly so to speak .

Radioman is correct. Bluntness in communication is a trait of Deaf culture. Developed due to 100's of years of misscommunication and trying to be understood by the world. We generally are very direct and say what we mean. So a little thick skin will hep around here for u.

This is not a dating site where u would actually have a gripe with people posting pics that are not themselves. What's more she says she has no interestd in such. So that means all the lonley horndogs complaining here need to go have a date with Rosy Palm and get it out of your systems.....

For your avatar you may want to put her year of birth and death. I think that would be a good way to honor her and keep the memory alive. As long as u r comfortable talking about it which u seem to be

I'm being honest and straightforward. Some might call it blunt. Posting that as her avatar without any information was deceitful. I also doubt the victims immediate family would have appreciated that either. I'm not going to call a spade a shovel.

good point about year of here life. I dont see anything wrong using here freinds pic. If they were close, I'd be honored someone used my pic, but yeah it would made things easier with date added.

Mimsy, I'm sorry to have hurt your feelings when I pointed out the connection between your avatar and a young woman who was murdered, after noticing that you were using a cropped photo (above)straight out of a news article.

Please understand that posing as a dead person can have an unnerving effect on others at best, might be seen as being in poor taste, or even shockingly callous and deceitful. And as her brother Lyle has said in the press, seeing photos of the young lady he says they all call "Mez" used in cavalier ways hurts the family. You may have meant it in an unusual, but loving way, though, and your messages are all very nice, so I'm sure you mean no harm to this community and are not manipulating people's emotions for amusement or anything like that.

Your more recent -- and very pretty -- avatar does bear a striking resemblance. Are you related to her father or to her mother? With her father's book out last week, hopefully you'll see her memory honored very publicly.

I wish you the peace you are looking for, and hope our little online (and offline) community can be at your service to help you heal.

She was murdered. Her father is British and so they lived in England, but she went to school in Italy where half of her family comes from. She was murdered there. It happened a few years ago and it's still hard for me.

Did this receive a lot of news coverage? I remember a story like this on BBC, but I may have it confused with something else. Regardless, i'm terribly sorry for what happened, i hope you find peace soon.

I see it that is fair for one party to deserve an explanation, and Mimsy to explain her actions if she is willing to give a response.
howag, it's perfectly normal in deaf culture to question issues in direct manner.

If this thread gets out of hand we'll have to recycle it and I hope that is not going to happen. Hopefully, both sides will get a resolution.
