Obama Fried Chicken

So, exactly what's wrong with blacks having chicken and watermelon?

This is just a guess, I think it is mainly the fact that fried chicken is associated with obesity, and watermelon.. I have no idea... I like watermelons, they're healthy and taste good.

That was apart of my point I was bringing into the discussion, as it's a stereotype yes, but mostly that the protesters such as Sharpton are bringing unnecessary remarks such as patents. Whatever they can do to aid their winning streak.

Need to grasp the upper concept of it. I mean, like I said: there's no product patent over anything named Obama, the Japanese have done it a year ago and the Obama family, White house, lawyers aren't putting them under fire for use of the Obama name on products.

What does Sharpton want, really? I think personal agenda/fame and probably money is playing into this somewhere. I may be going on a ledge, but this is probably why a week later nothing has happened to them, nor has the White house done anything. They have bigger fish to fry, this thing is irrelevant for them to focus on.

They [the protesters] should check their reasoning they use for their cause..

I guess Sambo's Restaurant belongs to the footnotes of history now. :)

Ok, exactly what is wrong with associating chickens and watermelons to blacks?

Asians have noodles and soy sauce.

Italians have pasta and tomatoes.

Americans have burgers and pies.

So, exactly what's wrong with blacks having chicken and watermelon?

Yeah, I´m wondering the same...

tell that to Staten Island who wanted to annex itself from NYC
LOL!! i think SI isn't pretty. i know lots of rich people lives there but part of NYC. I would say big no no.

I think LongIsland want to be independent. maybe that was just a rumor.

Just asking

I would like to share the pictures from *America* cookery book, I bought 2 days ago.

Is it consider racism to print the picture of black people next the recipe of corn bread because corn bread is one of sterotypes foods, black people eats?

Front of America cookery book

I also have some more picture of Mexcians and Texans like black people as well.

I do not consider it as racism but interesting to know what kind of foods they cook and eat. I would try their recipes...

but what's wrong with fried chicken? I like fried chicken too.. why is it a bad thing?

anyway, I think Obama just wanted have more control of his own name. so I can see why he allow some companies use his name.

I wonder if this would apply to halloween masks?

and I wonder if Obama was on the sign long before he ran for election

Kentucky is a mountain people state (commonly known as hillbillies..and they are not usually African Americans either. I think they are mostly irish descendant). And I love cornbread :) Just be sure to drink it with buttermilk

who doesnt like cornbread? Put some butter and honey on it, its like desert

just to let you know, black people were inventors of most american food. They were cooks.

But they served fatty food to their slavemasters while they ate healthy nutritious food (fruits and veggies that they could find in their backyard, like tulip leaves and such). The slavemasters must have thought they were getting better diet when it is actually the opposite.

I used to think they used fried food because the south was hot and they didn't want to stand all day near the oven to cook.. so frying is quick and easy.

Speaking as someone who is half Black, grew up with my Black southern mother I must agree with ASLGAL that Al Sharpton uses things like this to deepen his pockets. I hate having someone like him feel that they are the representative of all Black people in this world. I think the streotypes will only affect us if we allow them to. Every race, religion, etc has it's own stereotypes. Blacks and fried chicken and watermelon; Hispanics and rice and beans; Asians and rice or being smart; Jews and being misers with money. In this day and age I feel like we all need to learn to laugh at ourselves. We only fail when we feed into the stereotypes or allow them to bother us. I was in a restaurant once and I was asked by a gentleman why Blacks always go for the fried chicken first. Now I could've gotten extremely mad and given him the reaction he was probably trying to spark out of me but end the end I would have looked more dumb than his question. I simply replied that he had more pieces of fried chicken on his plate than I did (as I had none because fried chicken upsets my stomach). I'm not going to say racism/prejudice is a thing of the past but how can someone advance if they keep looking to the past for excuses.

Also, I must disagree that the Obamas pick and choose what they want to be upset about. The article says they Whitehouse disapproves of the name use. This could just be some PR guy and not necessarily the President himself. I must also disagree that he uses the race of Black because it is of benefit to him. His father is of African descent making him half African American, half White. It is America who has given him the Black label rather than a mixed race label.

This guy is probably a big admirer of Obama. I say why not keep the name and don't let those looking for a reason to make this a racial situation hurt you or your business.

ME<-----watermelons are my FAVORITE.. if anyone is going to stereotype, they should stereotype me with my watermelon :D and strawberries. because I love them

Frankly, I was shocked that people equal watermelon and fried chicken to African Americans. I thought it was more of a southern white people thing because we eat more of it than blacks. I've considered it one of my home cooked meal. Oh well, I guess we all have our preference of food.

Watermelon is very healthy for pregnant women.

speaking of stereotyping, some people are using Luke from Amazing Race to stereotype deaf people as he is the poster child to the deaf community. Sure, he is deaf but his personality does not represent the deaf culture at all (we all know we come in different sizes and shapes). Just his deafness.

I've always felt that anyone who say "oh, he is making such and such look bad" is really prejudice (sp?) or racist. They are looking for a poster child for an excuse to not like certain race, culture, or community in general.
