Ny Woman Arrested After Driving With Homemade License Plate On Car

I always wondered why they switched how the plates looks to flat from the old embossed/raised letters and numbers. Seems it's harder to fake the old style than the new...

Oh I've known that for a long time. Don't care. It's still part of the discussion and I am participating in the discussion. As you can see- others have responded even though I know the person doing the ignoring won't see the quoted text.

Alright, she is annoying, anyway.

We had flat plates few years ago, and it didn't last long, most complainers were from cops that claimed they can't read flat plates, prefer raised characters instead so back to metal stamping. I thought too that flat would be better, guess not for cops. :dunno:

I can kind of see why it's harder to read flat plates... shine a light on that it's a little hard to tell on some states plates if there isn't enough contrasting colors- I think that's where the biggest problem is. Most of the old ones that i remember had contrasting colors along with the raised letters/numbers.

Does New York have registration stickers on the rear license plate? Some states do and some put registration sticker on the lower left windshield inside.

Looks like NY puts them on the lower left side of the windshield. MA puts them on the right side. Used to be that on the older plates there was a notched space in at least one corner for the sticker. I vaguely remember rotating the corners too in one state(maybe PA- would have to look at the plate I kept lol). I think on my current plates the month goes on the upper left side and the year goes on the upper right side (just stick the new year on the old).

California still uses stickers on the rear plates for the yearly renewal. Texas has both inspection and registration stickers on the lower left side of windshield.

WOW, her homemade plate almost looks real! If she only had a ruler and a steady hand she might of pulled it off! Better yet, Photoshop and a good color printer.

There was no sticker on her fake plate so she would been pulled over for that even if she did a neat job.

Yes, your right we (New Yorkers) have registration sticker placed on lower left windshield not on license plate. PA, I believe they still put sticker on license plate. I can find out soon when Im in PA again. I grew up in PA, and still remember placing the sticker on plate. North Carolina, same thing registration sticker on license plate, as I remembered NC DMV reps placed sticker on my license plate.

It was near perfect, no need any sticker on it as it goes to windshield instead.

We have a sticker with a date on our plate on the right side ,if not the right color you get pulled over for not having updated your
car registration .

I have a Support Your Troops plate for my car. It has the US Flag and Eagle. It's pretty.

As I said Photoshop and a good printer; she could of made the plate and put in a sticker on her windshield or wherever NY now puts their stickers. I hope she's getting the help she needs because she obviously wasn't playing with a full deck.

Yea, it was on our local newspaper, I was like RME! Its not far from here, about 45 minutes south.

It is easier to fake plate with today plate, if it were from old plate, harder to fake it cause more detail on plate from Niagara falls though the Dacks down Catskills the NYC.
Mine is vanity plate, yea it cost more... oh well.

It's difficult to fake Iowa plates because of the details in the background. Farms, windmill and skyscrapers. It also has reflection, too.

NY does have hologram on license plate, its liberty lady and its hardly noticeable... Pretty much useless cuz its very vague (lightly printed), have to get closer with right light condition then can see it... joke, eh?

The joke is on New York for that. They might need to complicate their plates again to prevent copying.

Ma. has hologram on their license plates too. A fake plate can't be read when it's being scanned so the police would know right it's fake.

Trying to find a list of what states have the holographic image- couldn't find much info- I think most states have them now though doesn't matter whether the plate itself is embossed or flat.

This site shows which states have flat or embossed plates. Pretty interesting

What I liked about Illinois years ago was that they were two color plates. The letters/numbers and background were reversed for regular plates and auto dealers plates. My dad sold cars and we got to use the demonstrator as our family car. The colors being reversed on the plates made it easier to find in a parking lot.

This is a later year than I was looking for but shows the colors from that year. Your personal care would have had a dark background and light printing that year. All the plates for one dealer would have the same number and then different letters at the end. The one where my dad worked the numbers on the plates were the same as the last four numbers of their telephone number.

I think just about all states had two color plates up to maybe the late 1990s when flat plates came into the picture.

Pennsylvania- the ones I remember (after they became standardized- I didn't realize they changed every year from 1901 through to at least the 1960s lol)- the 1970s were yellow with blue lettering then the 1980s blue with yellow lettering (the one I have). Didn't have any of the plates after 1999 but relatives of mine did.
