NJ mom arrested over 6-year-old's tanning visit
NJ mom arrested over 6-year-old's tanning visit - CBS News

A Nutley, New Jersey, mother was arrested after allegedly taking her 6-year-old daughter to a tanning salon and causing a slight burn after the child used one of the tanning beds.

However, Patricia Krentcil, 44, told WCBS in New York that the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.

Krentcil, 44, admitted to a love for tanning, but insisted she would never tan her daughter's fair skin, WCBS reports.

"I've been tanning my whole life, going to the beach, tanning salons and so forth," she said.

WCBS reports: "Krentcil said when the school nurse asked her daughter how she got burned, she simply said, 'I go tanning with mommy.' However, the woman said her daughter's burn was not from getting into a tanning bed, but from being outside and playing in the backyard."

Krentcil has been charged with second degree child endangerment, ABC News reports.

Oh, my, that mother's skin is tanned all right . . . tanned like a leather hide!

I want to know what tanning salon would allow the little girl to get into a tanning bed.

This story is wrong on several levels.

*scratch my head* -

Normally tanning salon have rule for everyone who allows to go in... Example about buy alochol, cigarettes, tattooes, etc.? The owner of salon is the responsible...

It didn't says anything that the mother knows about rules or not?

Wirelessly posted

I see parents that allows their child to tan on the beaches. Or let their babies or small child get sunburn. Are they going to arrest them too?

Mom pleads not guilty to allowing daughter in tanning booth
Mom pleads not guilty to allowing daughter in tanning booth - CNN.com

(CNN) -- A New Jersey mother pleaded not guilty Wednesday to child endangerment charges after being accused of illegally allowing her 6-year-old daughter to tan at a salon, according to prosecutors.

Patricia Krentcil, 44, was arrested on April 24 and later released on $25,000 bail following the alleged incident, said Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors say Krentcil allowed her daughter inside a stand-up tanning booth at a salon in the northern New Jersey town of Nutley. It's not clear when the incident is alleged to have taken place.

Krentcil's attorney said the charges are unfounded.

"Forget about the presumption of innocence. My client is 150 percent innocent," John D. Caruso told reporters Wednesday. "She loves that child more than her own life and would never, ever, allow her child to go inside a tanning bed."

He said that Krentcil allowed her daughter to accompany her to the salon, but never allowed the girl into a booth.

New Jersey law makes use of artificial tanning facilities by children under the age of 14 illegal. Children over age 14 can use tanning equipment only with permission of a guardian.
Krentcil's next court appearance is scheduled for June 4.

NUTLEY, N.J. - New Jersey mother Patricia Krentcil appeared in Superior Court in Newark Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to a child endangerment charge after allegedly allowing her 6-year-old daughter to tan at a salon.

CBS New York reports the 44-year-old did not speak during her brief court appearance, except to say "Thank you, your honor, have a nice day."

Krentcil has denied the charge, saying she would "never permit" her daughter Anna to go tanning.

"My client is 150 percent innocent," said Krentcil's attorney John D. Caruso Wednesday. "That child was never in that tanning booth."

The mother of five has previously admitted to bringing Anna into the salon but said she's never allowed the fair-skinned girl into the tanning bed.

"It didn't happen," Krentcil said. "She's 6-years-old. Yes, she does go tanning with mommy but not in the booth."

But according to prosecutors, Krentcil took her 6-year-old to a tanning salon near her home actually brought the child into a tanning bed, causing a slight sunburn.

When a school nurse asked how she got it, Anna simply said "I go tanning with mommy." Police were then called and Krentcil was arrested.

Krentcil calls it all a misunderstanding and said her daughter got the sunburn from playing in the backyard.

"Look at my daughter's picture, she's as pale as a ghost, she has red hair," Krentcil said outside court Wednesday. "I'm a great mother, I'm a wonderful mother. I would die right now for her."

Meanwhile, Anna is still living with her mother.

"She's home, they're not taking her away. She's home," Krentcil said.

Anyone under the age of 14 is prohibited from using tanning salons in the state of New Jersey.

Krentcil's next court appearance is set for June 4.

She's 44 years old but she looks at least 10 years older. I can't imagine how she'll look by age 60.

I endured 2 bouts of skin cancer, one on my arm and one on my hand....not from a tanning booth, but from the sun, living at the Beach....but I did use a tanning booth during the winter months...

If this woman, indeed, let her daughter use a tanning booth, then she needs some jail time, or big fines...This woman will be singing a different tune once she acquires skin cancer in a few years!
