They want the same pay rate as a nurse. To be a nurse, you must have attended post-secondary school. To be a mailman, you must have a high school diploma. Something's not right. :hmm:

I talked to someone at the post office. It has nothing to do with the wages. They either want the backrooms and warehouses to be safer to work in, or to have their salary increased. One or the other.

It has to do with the working conditions, not the pay.

I thought maybe that the Canada Post need to have a new contract as the contract is already ended. Now I am seeing what you are typing saying that the workers need to get a high school diploma to deliver or work in the Post Office.

My Dad had high school diploma back then. So that does not mean there were any new changes. My Dad worked for the Post Office in United States for many years sorted the letters into boxes by hand and then became a supervisor to run the letter collecting machine instead of sorting by hand.

Yeah, most post offices need safety in the workplace. I don't know about the wages. Nothing has been said. :dunno: Here in Ontario, first it was Hamilton and then Montreal and then what next to find some other towns or cities to go on strikes. I have not been keeping up with the news lately. **sigh**

Yeah, that's right. Apparently, each province of Canada are taking turns to picket. It is to my understanding that there are service problems as routes have not been delivered due to staff shortages, and postal workers have been required to perform forced overtime so they want better working conditions. But this kind of irks me because I have a friend who works as a letter-carrier for PO and he found strategies to finish his 8 hour's work in approximately 4 hours. But it is not possible now because they have added duties/responsibilities so it is not possible for him to complete his work in under 8 hours. :hmm:

I have been paying bills online because I do not want my bills in the mail to arrive to the destination late.

Ah, I've just been talking to the folks behind the desk. I will ask the mailman the next the he does his round near my complex.

PO wants to improve their services so they brought in new and faster technology but Postal Workers do not like it because it is too fast and hard to use and they are worried that technology will replace them with their jobs in the future.

Also, the letter carriers only carried one bag with mail in it. Now PO is asking them to carry two bags- it is heavy for them, hurts their arms and hard for them to see the ground when they walk up the stairs. The Postal Workers feel this way is slow too.

Thanks for the link!

No, not true.

There is so much more than just salary.

I got a good friend who is working as a mailman.

Some years ago Canada Post stripped 15 sick days away from postal workers; as a result, many of them have had to lose pay on sick day or doctor appointment after consumption of their annual sick days. My good friend has lost $400 in pay for doctor and MRI appointments when his annual sick leave has expired.

Safety is a major factor, too. I know for a fact that some mailmen have had to carry two or so heavy bags and I have witnessed several of them struggled while carrying two bags. In addition, Canada Post knowingly forced them to work in extreme cold weather in the past. Six years ago or so, several mailman in Hull and Ottawa refused to work in very cold weather with -51C wind chill; as a result, Canada Post suspended and fined them. Quebec Labour Ministry and Public Labour Relations Board had to intervene on their behalf to force Canada Post to cancel their decision.; moverover, Canada Post got a warning over their treatment of mailman in this incident.

As a matter of facts, the working atmosphere at Canada Post has never been positive for a long time.

Canada Post had made profits for 15 years in row as far as I know.
