Oh and one more thing, as for you knowing that your child will be hearing & want to know on the signing issue. I have two hearing children and I worried about this too. But, I worried much less when I realized that yes, I do have a hearing husband, and yes, both of my children are hearing, and yes, I have always been able to hear & speak well with HA's [and now one CI] and because I was from a hearing family, I've always just talked around my family & signed when I'm around my deaf friends & the deaf community.
What I found worked best for me and my family was we'd just basically talk - cause that is natural for me BUT. . . my husband & children all know signs & will continue to learn everyday because I want them to know both & to accept what is part of their Deaf Mom's world, the deaf world, while staying in the hearing world too.
Just do what you feel is best for you & your family. My daughters talk directly to their Dad and I don't have a problem with it, cause I know that if I didn't catch something & wanted to know what was being said, someone will tell me or sign it to me if I don't have my HA/CI on. Plus, my husband is great on wanting all his children to know signs so that they could commnicate with me like when my HA broke, when I lost my voice & couldn't talk, or when I had ear infections & couldn't wear my HA, etc - their ability to sign came in handy in those time. And besides, my children loves learning signs, they go around the house fingerspelling words to themselves & showing off to me & their Daddy what they just learned how to spell or go around signing new words they've just learned and when they've got it perfect, they'll come running to me and proudly show off. I love it!
