Does not matter, You can sit here and judge me about being responsible and doesn't care about other people kids Let me tell you something It's not my duty to watch lazy parent's children while they are on the Internet. It remind me of a friend of mine who comes to a family reunion, ignored her kids the entire reunion, and expect everyone else to watch her kids, I don't think so, She is a mother she takes care of her own kids. ;)

I am not askin' you to watch the lazy parents' children while they are on the internet, but you can do somethin' about it for THIS AD. The AD members can help makin this AD better by preventin' the kids from viewin' the sexual images. It's not that hard to do. Keep this AD's environment clean ! This will also help the kids not to get into trouble at school when there's a new law about sex harrassment ( See Lieblin's thread ). I want the "influence" to be avoid. I don't think it's fair to see the new laws upon the children at their young age. It will confuse them and it is not necessary for them to suffer from the laws like this. It humiliates them for what ? Gee - that's not right. Not just only school, but other reasons as well.

Montgomery Homeland Security Officers Reassigned After Library Incident

By Cameron W. Barr

Two uniformed men strolled into the main room of the Little Falls library in Bethesda one day last week and demanded the attention of all patrons using the computers. Then they made their announcement: The viewing of Internet pornography was forbidden.

The men looked stern and wore baseball caps emblazoned with the words "Homeland Security." The bizarre scene unfolded Feb. 9, leaving some residents confused and forcing county officials to explain how employees assigned to protect county buildings against terrorists came to see it as their job to police the viewing of pornography.

After the two men made their announcement, one of them challenged an Internet user's choice of viewing material and asked him to step outside, according to a witness. A librarian intervened, and the two men went into the library's work area to discuss the matter. A police officer arrived. In the end, no one had to step outside except the uniformed men.

They were officers of the security division of Montgomery County's Homeland Security Department, an unarmed force that patrols about 300 county buildings -- but is not responsible for enforcing obscenity laws.

In the post-9/11 era, even suburban counties have homeland security departments. Montgomery County will not specify how many officers are in the department's security division, citing security reasons. Its annual budget, including salaries, is $3.6 million.

Later that afternoon, Montgomery County's chief administrative officer, Bruce Romer, issued a statement calling the incident "unfortunate" and "regrettable" -- two words that bureaucrats often deploy when things have gone awry. He said the officers had been reassigned to other duties.

Romer said the officers believed they were enforcing the county's sexual harassment policy but "overstepped their authority" and had to be reminded that Montgomery "supports the rights of patrons to view the materials of their choice."

The sexual harassment policy forbids the "display of offensive or obscene printed or visual material." But in a library, which is both a public arena and a county workplace, the U.S. Constitution trumps Montgomery's rules.

At most public libraries in the Washington area, an adult can view pornography on a library computer more or less unfettered. Montgomery asks customers to be considerate of others when viewing Web sites. If others are put off, librarians will provide the viewer of the offending material with a "privacy screen."

Fairfax County forbids library use of the Internet to view child pornography or obscene materials or to engage in gambling or fraud. But Fairfax library spokeswoman Lois Kirkpatrick said, "Librarians are not legally empowered to determine obscenity."

D.C. library spokeswoman Monica Lewis said the system is working on guidelines for Internet use, but she added that recessed computer screens generally ensure patrons their privacy.

Although many library systems in the United States use filtering software, the D.C. and Fairfax systems do not, and Montgomery uses such software only on computers available to children. Leslie Burger, president-elect of the American Library Association, said the reality is that "libraries are not the hotbed of looking at porn sites."

Still, Montgomery plans to train its homeland security officers "so they fully understand library policy and its consistency with residents' First Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution," Romer said in his statement.

Yup, you hit it right and hard, Dreamdeaf! Often many people misunderstand and misinterpret the law. Often these laws were twisted and screwed up! I can bet you that even *IF* George Washington came back alive and looked at the United States, he is gonna to drop his jaw and had his wooden teeth fall off then shook his head! He would say, those people get WRONG idea about the original intention of the constitution of the United States! He would be pissed off that he can't snort coke!

Have you ever wonder why many American settler left England to live on our soil? The real reason is taht they are sick and tired of British government that is hoover controls over them, demanding them unreasonable taxes and made several ridiculous laws against them. They left because they don't want to be controlled by the government. Now, that the real intention of American settlement are now rapidly disappearing! What a sad!!!

AllDeaf is fine the way it was build and the way it is run, Alex provide us a great deaf site where everyone can come in and share their opinions, feedback's and etc. Shouldn't matter what avatar or signature each member has on their own, Why worried about something that is not important or requirement. What is most important is how we say our respond on posts how we share our opinions with each others with respect, agree to disagree. I've never seen one rules applied anything about how we can pictured our signature or avatar, We don't have to like anyone's avatar or signature, I am only worried about my own, and each member have their own taste of what image they want for their own. It doesn't make them a bad person. I don't believe in controling people, telling them what's right and what's wrong, when each of us are adult we make our own choice. And if Alex has a problem with my avatar or signature he is more than welcome to ask me to change it. He's the boss and that's who I obey. ;)

Just because it works at your library doesn't mean JP was not telling the truth....it means that it was blocked at JP's library. That doesn't mean that it will be blocked everywhere.

For what its worth, I attempted to access from a community center earlier today and it would not let me in from one computer but did from another computer. I don't know about our local library, but when I'm over that way I'll take a peek.

As long as you have a library card.... :bump:

That's pretty strange that I have to use my library card for accessing to any computer in any Fairfax County Pubic Libraries....

I don't think you get my point. Like I said to Mookie, every person changed AFTER LEARNIN' some things in LIFE. It doesn't mean that I am defendin' them. I agree with them what I thought is right. You CAN'T expect every person to remain the same without ever changin' ( maturity ). Your circle of friends and I are way, way different and I am glad that I am NOT your friend. Sorry to tell you this and don't you ever tell me to shut up. That's disrespectful of you sayin' that. You are very rude. I am not goin' to argue with you and I don't care what you say OR think ! I am just bein' ME. Period !

So, shoOo shoO and go with WHO ever you care the most ! I couldn't care less.
