Hey! New here! Grew up HOH in Kansas, with some exposure to the Deaf community via Kansas State School for the Deaf. Mainstreamed and largely assimilated into Hearing culture. Have toyed with the idea of getting rid of my aids altogether, and the other night, the dog took the choice out of my hands. Ate my one remaining hearing aid! Since they're not cheap to replace and we are kind of broke right now, I'm looking to teach my family and friends ASL, though I'm rusty because I haven't had anyone to really practice with in nearly 15 years. I'm very self-conscious about my own ability to communicate. Also work in a busy retail store where my coworkers and bosses are very understanding, but we'll need to come up with creative solutions to the challenges introduced by this new development.
I have two preschoolers, a dog and two cats. My partner knows a little sign language, but hasn't really used it in ten years so she's lost a lot of it.
Looking forward to making new friends and getting back into the swing of things!
