Hi. I'm a homeschool mom in East Tennessee and I want my son to learn ASL. He is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. I know a little sign, but only because I had a friend with deaf parents several years ago. I do not feel comfortable teaching my son anything but the basic fingerspelling and the common words. I don't think I would be able to teach full conversational signing with any accuracy. I have scoured the Internet in search of a tutor or class we can attend in our area with no luck. I found this forum and I was hoping someone could direct me to where I can find this information. We live about an hour and a half east of Knoxville, TN, but would be willing to drive to Knoxville one day a week if necessary. The closer to us the better. Morristown or Sevierville, TN would be optimal. I don't have faith in any of the online courses. Thank you very much for your time and replies. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong category.

Thanks, Brian. The friend I had, his dad worked at TSD. I will contact them. Thank you very much. I feel signing is important and I'd like to learn it as well. As I said I only know a few things, like "Nice to meet you." "What time is it?" "How was your day?" and some words like mother, father, sister, brother, help, helping, hungry, etc. Simple words that I learned to be able to communicate with a "stutter" with my friend's parents. Lord knows how they were able to understand half of what I tried to sign, lol. Thanks again!
