Hi All,

I am a new member here, I am 23 years old, I have hard hearing problem since I was 18 years old. I can speak, but I Cant hear clearly, its make me dont have any social life, shame, depressed, excommunicated, and lonely.
As far as I know, both of my eardrum is perforated (my left eardrum is the big one, but I dont feel any difference with my righ ear).
Does anybody know, if I patched my eardrum(surgery and medical operation) it is possible that I can hear normaly again?
This hard hearing things is destroying my life for over than 5 years, I want to do something about it.

Thx.

Welcome to the AllDeaf form ! It is not end of the world for you. Search for American Sign Language class in your area, learn ASL has alot of fun and make new friends. The socialize is good starting for you to meet more Deaf people at the church, club, organization drama, etc...

endiness!!

Listen to me. I am 42 and have been deaf for the past six years. My speech is perfect. I am between two worlds and yes it makes me crazy, but it's up to me to find the answer. I am learning ASL that I should of done six years ago. I read lips a little. Listen to the nice people here at AD. Anytime you need to talk I am here for you. :scatter:

Hello, I'm 26, and started having a hearing loss when I was about 13 by the time I was 18 I was 100% deaf on the left side. yes it really takes a bite out of the social life, I can't offer much advice in the regard but you're not alone.

My hearing loss is sensioneural, my eardrum and middle ear are fine. There is nothing that can be done about my hearing loss, even a hearing aid for my good ear only makes things sound different, not always better. (I still have far too much hearing ability to qualify for a CI, and even if I did qualify I don't know if I'd choose to get one)

have you seen an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, throat dr) about your problem? A specialist would be able to better answer your questions about repairing your ear drums. It's quite possible that some or most of your hearing could be restored, but only a dr will be able to tell you.

You probably won't have "normal" hearing, if your eardrum perferations are bad enough and you've had them for 5 years I'm not sure what your options are. eardrum punctures usually heal on their own in a few weeks, a dr might put a patch on it or something like that to help it grow shut, and there is surgery but I don't know anyting about that. there's probably some scarring as well. Why have you gone five years without seeing a dr about it?

Hello and welcome to Alldeaf! I can relate to the sort of frustration on your part...we simply can make a choice of how we want to deal with it, either we can 'kick pebbles out of frustration and/or in anger', moping about how 'it could be' or we can find ways to 'fit in' and be able to make the best out of any situation--after all, life's precious...there's sooo many things we can surely attribute to in a positive way that'll allow each one of us the sort of happiness we can be grateful with as well as being blessed with. ;)

Anyhow, hope you'll enjoy your stay here in AD!

Have a great day!

All Of AD members..
From the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate for your kindess, this is the first time for me there is people(s) who understand about my exact position.
Most of people in my area are normal, maybe I'm the only one who deaf, n most of them dont understand at all, most of them mocking at me, and the most difficult part is my parents dont even understand....
I have go to dr so many times, from them I know about my eardrum condition, not only from one doctor but about 4 doctor, strangely, they told me about my condition differently, but the main point (my eardrum problem) is the same for each of doctor. The difference is one of them say that i will hear normally again once the eardrum is patched, but the others say I will never hear normally again even the eardrum is patched, I'm so confused, which one is correct?????
Anyway..., I'm really happy to know all of you here, hope I can make a lot of friends here.

Nobody is going to mock you here—you’re amongst friends. We might bag on you a little here and there, but that’s about the extent of it.

again... thx
