New Australian law to make Muslims lift veils

It's not just Muslims - everyone MUST show their face to cop if asked.

Do people in Islamic countries ID people's faces?

Sorry but this is not workable, an officer of the law should be able to identify who they are talking to. It shouldn't matter if it is male or female. This is Australia and the law is for everyone, regardless of religion. Therefore anyone required to show their face should do so. To start pandering to other religions is crazy. If I go to a muslim country can I carry a light sabre because I belong to the church of the Jedi Knights?
 
As some1 who wants the burka banned in all western counties this is a step in the right direction

You're right - was just thinking if for sake of keeping the peace, that muslim women show their faces to female cops only.

After all, they don't use male guards to strip-search women in women's prisons for the same consideration of respect for their gender.

I just think it is already covered (no pun intended) that when asked by police you have to remove helmets etc so they can verify who you are that everyone should be treated the same. One law for everyone, otherwise there could be all sorts of new religions which just exploit this loophole. Strip searches should be done by the most appropriate available. Personally I would prefer a woman feel me up at the airport but they don't do that, well not for free anyway :naughty:

I had seen some Muslim women with veil in here, in IL and in CA.
 
I've seen veiled women here in Austin, TX; personally, I find it very offensive.

Two main reasons: I consider it a symbol of female oppression and I find it deaf-hostile. Sign languages depend on facial expressions for maximum contextual understanding.

True, when trying to live in the hearing world I lipread, with a covering over the mouth I would not be able to communicate. Mind you I also despise people chewing and eating when talking, eww.

netrox I do see what you mean there about being deaf-hostile.

as far as the other, some women who are Muslim do choose to cover and they come from religiously open or liberal backgrounds < as opposed to restrictive religious backgrounds where the custom was forced upon them>.
covering can be as much as territorial or cultural thing as opposed to only religious thing.

only choise muslim women have from birth is do i were a viel or not,they say they freedom of choise but if you brought up from birth only knowing veil then how can they make rational choise...
the majority of women age 40plus in afganistan do not want veil but if wearing burka means not having toenails ripped off then you going to wear it.
i worked in an area that helped run away muslim girls,the stories were heart breaking and sickning.
good for australia rest of world should insist on them removing veil aswel.in uk it will not happen we to imtimdated plus so many people end up loosing lives if we insisted on them showing face
 
mostly countries always hide faces all the times but i dont think police wanted see faces or KILLED!! ASAP
