A deaf person always has a choice as what to do with their hearing (or lack of it), whether it be to wear HAs (if applicable), a CI surgery, do nothing, or have hope for stem cell research someday. It isn't our place to shoot down opinions/hopes/dreams of others about options that they may want to consider.

It also isn't our place to make incorrect assumptions about others as to how they feel about their CI or HA.

Because people need to be aware of the potential for stem cell therapy. It would do away with the need for hearing aids, audiologists who dispense hearing aids, the need to be dependent on surgery for CI maintenance. What if America melts down - no batteries nor surgery if something breaks.

This is no joke. This has the potential to drastically improve the lives of many who straddle the worlds of hearing and deaf, who are not really accepted in either one.

The quality of my life is fine as a deaf person.

I am happy being deaf and happy with my hearing aids and what they do and dont do for me. If and when I can't hear and have very poor speech descrim I would turn to CI before stem cell research as this has been going on how long and even if it came out in 40 years CI's will still have proven to be have been working for a longer period of time and more ppl have used it and be successful ...I would not want to be a stem cell research guinea pig thanks. Glad u have something to look forward to in the future...im looking forward to other things....like my cupcakes im gonna make later:)

I'm diagnosed with what is considered to be a "severe" and "difficult to treat" case of bipolar (according to my psychiatrist).

I would appreciate it if you and kokomo would stop making inaccurate assumptions about me. Thank you.

My apologies. I didn't know you were suffering from this condition. I hope it gets better.

Long story short, I look forward to the day I can get as much of my hearing back, so that I can enjoy music to its fullest. I enjoy music a lot. I love it. I can only imagine what a hearing person hears. In the meantime, I make do with what I have.

Exactly. The quality of enjoyment on music would become so much better. The miracle of how hearing works is simply amazing. The possibility of that happening continues to grow each year as stem cell technology advances much more than the previous year.

And you can thank Obama for opening the road to more research being done!

Who said a Deaf person can't enjoy music as much as someone who can hear normally? You are making alot of incorrect assumptions about something you do not have an understanding of.

Exactly. "Quality of enjoyment" is an entirely subjective measurement, and one that no one can make for another.

It's just another typical hearie elitist attitude which says that being able to hear is better than being Deaf.
