Need Advice

A good friend of mine is getting a CI tomorrow - I am happy for him, but am unsure how to send him a card... I know he will be having side effects from the surgery and the implant itself for a while.

Now this may seem like a dumb question to some of you, but I don't want to make a mistake - do I send him a get well card and a congrats card to him at the same time, or do I send the get well card first, and then the congrats card when the implant is turned on and working?

Any advice, suggestions would be welcome.

My frist thought is to send the get well card first. But after thinking about it, it would probably help put him in a better mood during the early stages of recovery if he got a congrats card first. It was a huge decision for him to go through with the surgery, so I bet a congrats might help reasuure him that he did the right thing, especially in the early days when he might have some pain and discomfort. Just my .02.

I totally agree. A congrats card sounds so much positive while a get well card sounds like he has been sick, when he hasn't been sick. But it might be appropriate if he has a hard time recovering from the surgery, though.
 
My roomie got me Get Well Balloon and a Congrat Balloon lol. I loved having it by my side in my recliner during my healing stage.
 
Thanks - will take all this advice to heart - as it is, his surgery was cancelled. Reason unknown at this time, but he's really upset. *sigh*
 
Well, DD, knowing that you have the "gift of gab", lol, what I'd do if I were you is get a really nice card that has no pre-printed message and write to your heat's content the loving message to this friend that I know you must be feeling so........let the ink flow with this heart-felt message that I just know is waiting to burst forth from your heart to pen!
 
A card saying "Welcome to the dark side" :giggle: after your friend gets his implanted, before surgery, get him balloons and card wishing him some good luck!

Sorry to hear his surgey was cancelled.
 
I would send a friend "Good Luck" card instead of "Get Well" or "Congrats" card. IMO.

Hi, Leibling, long time, no see...where have you been....did you get kidnapped by terrorists and someone rescued you? Lol......anyway, I am not sure about a "good luck" card because this person doesn't need luck(well, maybe a little); he needs well-wishes and encouragement for the long road ahead. He will have a lot of work to do to optimize the benefits of getting a CI, whatever those aspirations/expectations he has are.

Heartfelt cards expressing how proud of him you are would work nicely, too...doesn't have to be specific, i.e. get well, congrats, etc. You're a woman of many talents to include the written word, so you can go with one of those blank cards and fill it with exactly as you want to say. :)

I understand what you mean but I see different. I can understand and see no problem that each person entitle their own opinion.

I think "Get-Well" card is suitable to wish sick person better or hope sick person get speedy recover from an illness. The person who want to have CI surgery is not sick.

"Congrats" card is happy for someone who acheive their successful.

"Good Luck" card is suitable for give someone the chance to achieve their successful.

I think Get-Well and Congrats card is not right type to wish future CI user because you never know either CI work for them or not. Send Congrats card only if CI works success on them.

I would send "Good Luck" card including express words how much thought and proud I am of them.

Can I ask a question? I am new to this site and am curious about what you guys see as the pros and cons of CI's.
 
I don't mind getting a "get well" cards , it shows that they are thinking of me while I recover from ci surgery. 'get well" does not apply to "sick" only.

Do you send a "get well" card to someone who are in hospital regardless of a condition? eh?

also ci patient goes home groggy or maybe nauseous, or whatever right?

you are welcome to ask question that but this is wrong thread to ask in.

There are few threads that has subject on pros and cons in "hearing aids and cochlear implants" section so please use search function on this board.

Or create a new thread in "hearing aids and cochlear implants" section.
 
Well, I'm with Boult on this one here since I do not mind having a get well card first if I had cochlear implant and get well cards are not only apply to those who are sick, it can be use as if someone was in surgery, having a breast, hips or knees implants etc...

For myself, I would give them a get well card first for healing and then a congratulation card after he/she have their cochlear implant activated... :)
