Naida V SP/UP

i better save up some $ because i want a zebra hearing aid!

Sweet, I love the zebra! How much is the improvement in speech discrimination? Hope it work out well and last you little longer than all your aids lol remember if your speech discrimination get under 60 you should be qualified for ci I don't think it need to be 40 since you used to be hearing and its kind of not fair to have to wait until 40 imagine the frustration and depression of not knowing what's going on more than half of the time when you used to be able to hear effortlessly

thanks! i love the zebra too! I was so happy they had it cuz i loveeee zebra print:) my speech discrim is better but i am still having some trouble and having to rely a lot on lipreading still. My tinnitus is also crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy but what can ya do right.. i have my evaluation for CI on the 15th

Yeah I totally undy the tinnitus while I had tiny bit of hearing left in right, it was ridilicious loud sound like banshee screaming anytime I'm upset or crying omg it sound like 1 million decibels or something but as soon as my hearing dropped to NR (no reponse) it been heaven lol quietest it've ever been no tinnitus at all no hearing sensation (recruitment) nothing only vibration from super loud noise and with ha its tickling vibration lol
Weird thing is if I don't wear ci for whatever reason its never a shock or any twitch when sound come in even if my brain doesn't get any sound or tinnitus to "simulate" its like on and off switch, guess I'm lucky lol

ya tinnitus blows for sure and that's good! u still wear your processor most of the time tho don't you?

When I'm out of house and during weekend (jason days off) I just don't see point of wearing it in house when I'm all alone lol and on tv the female voices don't sound right for some reason in real life it sound fine, lately it been frustrating because nobody's talking to me (voice-wise) just signing and STILL haven't heard from surgeon about avt therapy or anything to do with listening therapy it been 2 years now dr. Teixido... jeez just I would rather wear it if I'm going to listen or make use of it you know its like I don't like being the fly on the wall I don't learn anything that way I need someone talk to me directly constantly I hate not learning anything I've tried asking jason or anyone to talk but it always just 10 min then back to signing or writing on paper ugh I know its 60k of equipment/surgery but I just HATE not being able to use it so sometime I'm like fk it why wear it on at some occassion dunno what to do

have you joined the cochlear community? Cochlear Community they have listening programs u can do online for the phone etc that a lot of ppl use to help with their CI listening skills:) u should definitely check it out!

so alicia.. how are you finding the Naidas?? What accessories did yours come with? How much did yours cost (so we can compare prices ;) ).
Mine came with:
HAs (obviously)
MyPilot (useful)
iCom (not overly useful to me)
iCom TV Pack (useless)
10 million cases (most of which are useless).

What have your thoughts been so far?

I have no idea how much they were ...I'd have to find the invoice..I will let you know this week cuz i have to go back this week for adjustments and to pick up my other receivers that were fixed so I can try and sell them

mine came with

the hearing aids
mypilot which I neverrr use lol haha i'd rather just press my ha buttons
iCom which is way better for the phone for me
did not get the TV pack with mine
2 chargers for mypilot and iCom
the manuals and some cleaning tools and magnets for the phone for the telecol.

I still can't hear on the house phone but can hear on the cell better because of the iCom. I can understand familiar voices a lot better than new voices if that makes sense. So they are a bit better in speech understanding but still having trouble and sound localization sucks because I don't have much of a clue where some sounds are coming from like ambulance..but I haven't had that for awhile lol still having trouble with like "th" and "sh" and such but what can ya do I guess lol...

cool. im not sure why mine came with the tv pack.. so useless! anyway, i'm glad to hear that you are hearing a bit better. I personally just avoid the phone totally rather than pay extra to use my cell (lol.. i like my $10/mo pretty much unlimited txt plan thx! ;) )
i have the same problem with localization, except when my directionals turn themselves on.. cause in that case i know its coming from infront of me or else i cant hear it at all!!
the voices part does make sense.. i found the same thing, ppl i know were a bit easier, but new ppl were as difficult as ever.
i'm still trying to get the magnets in a good spot on my landline. seems that whereever i put them i either get feedback or they aren't close enough to activate t-coil. let me know if you figure out a good spot.. id be interested in knowing!

Hi Alicia

I am also new to the Naida's I got mine about 3 weeks ago. Like you I have Naida V's sp. My loss is profound in the higher ranges and of course my speech recognition isn't that good. My audiogram is described as a ski slope :) I'm sort of on the fence right now if they are in fact helping. I do hear a lot more things then I did but when it comes to speech discrimination I'm still uncertain if I'm benefitting. I was going to try Sonovations AVR Impact as well that has frequency compression similar to soundrecover. Have you or anyone else ever tried it? I do like the icom but not for music. While I do hear many notes that I could not before, I just don't like the overall sound. I will have to get my audi to tinker with the programmiing a bit.
