Myspace Hoax

Something needs to happen to this woman who deceived this young girl ! This is terrible what happened! I hope they find someway to prove she had something to do with her suicide and find her guilty of some charges.

I suppose I am sufficiently convinced that her charges and punishment are appropriate and just. :smash: Shame on her!

I wonder if they would.. like a child call a neighbor for help, but the neighbor refuses to call 911

That's a good question. I suppose if the parents had told the child to call the neighbor, and the neighbor had some sort of documented agreement that they would assume responsibility in a case where the parents weren't available. But I would think it would almost require a written contract betweent the parents and the neighbor proving that the neighbor had agreed toassume responsibility. In the case of a baysitter, the agreement is implied, because the baby sitter is present.

I don't think neighbor is legally required to call 911. he could think it's a prank. then again... like jillio said - good question. should be a good question to ask a lawyer or cop if you know one.

Exactly. Her parents could conceiveably be charged with child endangerment..
I disagree, The teen is 13 years old, they do not want parents who control them in everything they do, They prefer parents to trust them.

It doesn't matter what the child wants. She is still a minor and still under the control and custody of her parents. Under the law, a parent is responsible for the proper supervision of a child under the age of 18. Failure to do so can result in charges of child endangerment. I doubt seriously any judge or jury would accept the excuse from a parent that they failed to supervise their child because the child did not want to be supervised.

That's why I said there would have to be some sort of documentation of a prior agreement between the neighbor and the parents stating that the neighbor agreed to accept responsibility.

Also, if the child could call the neighbor, the child could also call 911 themselves.

most children don't know what to do: that's why they required custody as in someone to look after them

... they only go to people they trust (abuse, for example)

Agreed. They do need someone to look after them. But they are teaching children to dial 911 in the case of an emergency in pre-school now. But, once again, if the neighbor wasn't present in the house, and there was no documented agreement between the parents and the neighbor for assuming responsibility, then it would be difficult to prove that the neighbor had been negligent to the degree that they endangered the child. If the child had been left home alone and was too young to know what to do, then the parents could be charged with child endangerment. If the parent was home, but unconscious or something, and the child called the neighbor, then I doubt that anyone would be charged.

One can say it's manslaughter. But I say it's child endangerment because she is a 49 years old woman playing a horrible prank on 13 years old girl! It is senseless and cruel of her. Adults like her should know better!
I agree. 35 years might sound like too much, but if you think about it... she did something that even a stupid adult would not be THAT stupid to do... drove a kid to suicide.

Sure, kids are mean to other kids... but an adult? No way. That's really bad. So, she probably deserved it. That should make those other adults think twice before messing with kids like that.

speaking of myspace, I have a 13 years old niece who claimed to be 19 years old on myspace.

I am undecided if I should report her or not because I do not want her talking to over-age men or just leave her alone. I am afraid I would not be able to talk to her on myspace.

I discovered on my neice's MySpace page that she was claiming to be 16 (really 13), and also had used some innappropriate langauge. I immediately informed her father. He took care of it.

ouch.... I'd say you should report it to her father but should tell the dad to just discuss about it with her, not punish her severely. She just don't know any better.

or instead... did you discuss with her about it?

no, not yet, and I don't really talk to her dad.. my sister is very bitter at him for winning the custody case. He would find everything he can to cause her to lose more visitation rights (he loves tormenting my sister and taking her to court). So I am afraid I might say the wrong thing to him, so I've decided not to talk to him at all.

I might talk to her, but if she won't do it, there is not much I can do except report it. Her mother is afraid to do anything about it as she is afraid of my neice's dad. Her mother is deaf, btw.

oh... that's even more complicated... since she talks to you, then you should have a serious discussion with her. but beyond that... I don't know... use your best judgement

That woman deserves some jail time, but the problem is..what about a teenager who got involved in this as well? She should have been charged, too.

I was thinking of manslaughter also because she told that girl that the world would be a better place without her. It sounds like she is wishing, hoping that she'll be gone, just vanish.

No, a teen was her neighbor who doing a hoax at her. What an idiot woman! The bad neighbor person!

She should be charged as life sentence imprisonment.
