That makes it certain it would have been the World War 2 that your grandfather was in, and if from Canada, the war would have begun as early as 1939 not 1945.
Now I understand. You were looking into his military and personal past that you want to know about him. Okay, I fully understand what you are saying. Yes, it is difficult to find where you are looking for in his records. And also looking into for your mom's record too. The only one I could think of is family tree online. I forget the name of the website for that. **sigh**
Maybe ancestry.com? But I think you have to pay for that. Not free.

A Free way to research is to Google your grandfather's name. You will be surprised where the websites and links will lead you. But remember it is important to cross-reference with your grandfather's birthdate and date of death etc to make sure you have the right person.
if you lived in uk the imperial war museum would help ,it may still be able to help email them they point you right direction.
I remember he was sayin his grandpa was dying several weeks ago.
Smithr or anyone can always ask me if you need to get some information about your grandfather or family members since I am able to access my Ancestry account. I subscribe to my World Deluxe Membership on an annual basis.
