If you have your grandfather's full name, you can research the World War 2 records online. Many wrote journals back then - you may be able to find out more of his story that way.

Travis, I am sorry that your grandfather had passed away. Rest in Peace.

Your grandfather was not in World War 2 in 1954. World War 2 was over in 1945. I was born in 1945. I think he was in the Korean War in 1954, I think. Wow, now he was 89 years old. He lived a good life so far. Be proud of him and very glad to had him with you before he passed. Always remember him the times he spend with you. You are a good grandson to him. May you walk in peace with your grandfather. :(

EDITED: Travis, I think maybe you might have reverse the year if your grandfather was still in World War 2 like I see 1954 would be 1945. Is that right? :hmm:

Beonang, thanks for pointing out the difference in the date. I first thought perhaps he had typed the 45 around the wrong way. :).

Travis, sorry for the loss of your Grandfather too, was it very recent?

Just saw your last post. I'm sure that if you continue to be diligent in your search you will find what you are looking for. Have you tried the military records?

Travis, did you say your grandfather was 66 years old or was he 89 years old?

If he was 66 years old, that is the same age as mine. He can not be in World War 2 as he was a baby. But if he was 89 years old, then that would be different. So maybe he might be in Korean War in 1954 instead of World War 2. It depended on his age. Times goes fast.

I notice it found it 1989,
He is 66 yrs! is pass away!!
I have record on newspaper! also I will question to my uncle & aunt know !

I think Travis is saying his grandfather passed away in 89 (1989) at age 66 and that he is trying to get family history and stories that his mom and grandpa had when they passed.

Am I correct, Travis?

That makes it certain it would have been the World War 2 that your grandfather was in, and if from Canada, the war would have begun as early as 1939 not 1945.

Now I understand. You were looking into his military and personal past that you want to know about him. Okay, I fully understand what you are saying. Yes, it is difficult to find where you are looking for in his records. And also looking into for your mom's record too. The only one I could think of is family tree online. I forget the name of the website for that. **sigh** :(

A Free way to research is to Google your grandfather's name. You will be surprised where the websites and links will lead you. But remember it is important to cross-reference with your grandfather's birthdate and date of death etc to make sure you have the right person.

Maybe ancestry.com? But I think you have to pay for that. Not free.

Yes, that is the one I have been looking for. You are right that it is not free. I wish that website is free so that we can investigate our ancestors' records.

Good idea to try to find it in the Google website. Thank you, Mimsy. :)

if you lived in uk the imperial war museum would help ,it may still be able to help email them they point you right direction.
