Dear OP and Everyone else,
I apologize for being rude earlier. I still think Shushugah's point about articulation is correct, especially when discussing about higher education, and also for the first-timers reading those posts and forums. Does anyone remember Matajan and his posts about higher education? I wasn't really intending to criticize her in the manner you were thinking of, but rather trying to self reinforce the public image of deaf people.
I personally have to do that everyday in college/workplace, and I am not being haughty when I say this, but it's a very sensitive and delicate task to do, because most people have a negative stereotype of the deaf, which is part inaccurate but also a logical perception, based on posts like this one and others.
And another correction, I was only asked to speak on a panel AGBell sponsored about deaf accommodations in college and the college application process. That's it. My "sense of superiority" does not come from my association with AGBell. I was never involved with AGBell at all except this event and the scholarship.
Grummer, there's good and bad to Asian parenting, just as there's good and bad to "American" parenting, and I am a product of Asian parenting, but I believe I have turned out fine. I am an independent adult who is able to fend for myself.
