Oops!!

I'v been coming home recently very tired from college, i dont know why but college makes me more tireder than work placement
I wear my implant up to 12 hours a day and is it wrong for me to take it off abt 5-6pm?

It wont affect anything will it?

Not at all. When I was in school last semester, I did the same thing. I also keep my CIs off for 1-2 hours on the weekend because I enjoy having some peace and quiet. As long as you continue wearing your implant a few hours a day, your speech discrimination should not suffer.

Yes, ditto.......as long as you wear it sometimes, your speech discrimination should not go down.

I wear my hearing aids an average of an hour a day, even my audie says I should wear them more. But I stay home most of the time and hardly socialize

And on the weekends I only put my CI on if we leave the house so if we dont go out on sat and sunday i dont put it on.

On the weekends I do not put on my CI until late morning but not very long since the heavy sound of "Silent" gets to me after a while.

I usually keep my CIs off until late Saturday and Sunday morning around 10am. Prior to then, I like to enjoy some peace and quiet. :D

I am the same, Every week day if i am working, out of house i wear both, if i am on my own at home i use CI alone because i like to listen to TV, music while i do things, But come sat/sunday i usually potter round in my PJ's and not wearing my CI! I will put them on at some stage. I like to give my brain a rest (don't forget it has been woken up after 30 years of silence)and my ear a rest too as i still find ear hooks painful.

My ear hook rubs me quite a lot and i do have to take it off due to this and also I keep getting spots reoccuring on the top of my ear where my ci sits on

Hmm - if you're home and no one is around, you can put your hair in a ponytail, put the hook in your hair as if it's hooking on your hair. That should help a little bit. Sounds like you're getting some sort of callus build up. If it doesn't work, you can always get corn thingy to help it heal. I never had any problems. I use the longer hook.

I also take off my CI's after a while. 12 hours is a long time to really hear everything, so having some silence helps. :) I usually do not wear it in the mornings because I know for a fact that if I wear it all day until bedtime, I get very tired, and my ears really hurt.

I wear my CI all the time, especially for school and my after school Marching Band/ Drumline activity. But Most of the time I would like peace and quiet. Most days I'll take off my CI in case my implant was hurting me inside. Or if i had a headache. I like to listen to noise. After I take a shower I'll relax without having my hearing aid or my implant. :)

I wear my CI for maybe 13 hours a day (college student too), then it's off until I sleep or feel like going out later that night. Definitely want some peace and quiet after those long classes.

One of the things I like most about having CIs is being able to remove them whenever I have a migraine. One of the symptoms I have with migraines is extreme sound sensitivity, but thankfully that is no longer the case ever since I received bilateral CIs. :) Interestingly enough, the number of migraines I have has gone down considerably ever since my first CI surgery. Then again, I am taking a mood stabilizer (Depakote) for my bipolar which is also designed to treat migraines in addition to taking Topamax, so this could be responsible for the fact I don't have as many migraines as well.

OH I totally SECOND that!! :) God, if I had permanent CI's, that will drive me absolutely batty!

We both are in the exact same boat. I still get occasional migraine, but it has reduced since I had my CI's.

Glad to hear your migraines are in a bit of control. What do you do when you get the migraine attack? I tend to just turn off the lights (lights bothers me big time), turn off CI's, get ice pack and just put it on my head...works great!

Lady,

When I get a migraine, I take 100mg of Imitrex and that usually kills the pain within 15 minutes. If I'm having a particularly severe migraine, I'll take an Imitrex and then try to go to sleep. 9 times out of 10 by the time I wake up, my migraine is gone.

If I had permanent CIs, the constant sound would drive me nuts.

SOrry Off-topic - Imitrex did help me for a while, but it takes about 2 hours before it is effective...that's almost the same amount of time if I take 3 Advil. I've tried Zomig - works within 20 minutes or so and kills it. However...it's $75 a PILL...my insurance won't cover it. No matter. I just take Advil and ice pack on my head and just rest. It goes completely away within a couple hours...but the "dullness" lingers for 24 hours, then I'm back to my giggly self. It's a lot better than when I had migraines for 3 to 4 days straight...now, that's painful. :)

Unfortunately, my migraines are too severe to be able to benefit from Advil or Extra Strength Execedrin. The only thing that works for me is Imitrex. I've never tried Zomig before, but I've heard that it can work as quickly as 5 minutes.

I don't wear it 24/7. I like to have moments of silence. I cannot imagine a permament implant that will keep me hearing all that.. its too much!
