Hi everybody,
just wanted to tell you that today I went to my first Deaf Event... It was a movie. The Legend of the Mountain Man... Love it!!! It was the first time that I saw deaf people talking :) to each other.
I felt like shy and nervous because I'm hearing, I just started ASL classes one month ago and I've never try to sign with noone besides my classmates and teachers. But it turned very good. All the people there understood that I was learning ASL and they were very helpful... About the movie... I couldn't understand very much the signing but I did understand all the context of the movie... I learned new signs like bear, mountain man, woods, and some more... if you have other movies that you can suggest me, so I can practice my ASL, that would be GREAT!! :ty:

Juana,

I'm glad you had a positive experience! :) I can still remember my first Deaf Event and how nervous I was. :Ohno: I was a new signer at the time, but everyone was really great about signing slow enough so that I could understand tactually. I hope this won't be your last Deaf Event. I've been participating in the Deaf community for the past 4 years and have just as much fun now as I did at my very first Deaf Event. :)

Its great that you had such a good time, and a learning experience on top of it. Now that you have your first Deaf Event finsihed, you can look forward to the next one. It gets easier as you go.

I'm glad that you took a chance and went.

its good.more deaf events u go the more u learn :) it like learning a forein language

I wish there were more Deaf events where I live...I've searced but most of them is for an a group that is 60+ only lol and I don't think I would fit in anyways if they didn't have the Only rule

I'll see that movie at the Austine school in December. I bought the first ticket. :D

yep It really was a great experience... if you know people from Miami that they may know about more events... please, tell me!
