MY CI Testing

Warning: You CI will give you robotic sounds and robotic voices when people are talking. You will not hear like you heard it before.Im just preparing you.

EVERYBODY is different. Even you can't predict what she will hear. Why not be supportive of her decision instead of trying to be negative? With the newer implants and software available (especially with the Freedom), speech is more natural sounding than ever before, and programs are getting better and better.

You are right. And the brain will adjust for that and a more "natural" soundimage will appear. Sometimes in days, sometimes weeks, sometimes longer. Depends on the person.

That's right. Reading from the experiences of those who have had CI's the robotic sounds or high pitched Daffy Duck sounds upon activation is very common. It can take some weeks before the sounds become more natural since the brain needs time to catch up.

I'm very prepared for that myself.

I'm sure you have allready doen it yourself, but I tried to find experiences about the sound when CI is turned on and one site with experiences can be found here.

Thanks for that comment...I know I cannot expect to hear 100% of everything. I will not expect anything till I get the hookup CI and see what's the first thing I can hear.

That's the attitude! Expect little and be pleasantly surprised what you may hear.

Glad to hear that you are qualified for CI.. :)

my son's father just got CI implanted on his left ear 2 weeks ago. He can hear well on his left ear for many years but the last few years the hearing had declined so much that he get frustrated and can't hear on phone anymore? He have problems understanding people now. so now with CI hes hoping to be able to hear again. He is waiting to have it turned on in 2 more weeks.
He is pesting on me to get CI. I have thought alot about this and am thinking of getting it but don't know if I am qualified for this or not. I already requested for information on CI and etc. I got the packets last week. I'm still reading thru the informations. It is very interesting. I can hear some in my right ear as i am not stoned deaf like semi trucks passing by, Phone rings, yellings, plates put together very loud, dogs barking, and so on. The only problem is that I have moderate to severe loss in my right ear so maybe I am not qualified? i know my left ear is as it is Profound loss. My mom said it is when I have my HA on but when the HA is not on it is severe loss so I am not sure. I can't find my hearing tests as it is in boxes somewhere? I will have tests again so I will know what it is? :(

I am interesting in your experiences as well as others too. I know not all experiences are same but depend on individual's understandings and patience and practice on speech sounds every day if you are determined to do this then you will be successful!

My son's father think that since he got the CI that the deaf people will hate him. I said no..not really. some will hate the idea yeah but some will accept the way you are. If they don't accept you then they are not your friends! so it doesnt matter what they think but follow his heart and he want to be able to hear again especially his 3 kids. :)

Mama- Good luck on that and please let me know how it goes, ok? :)

How happy are you with your hearing aids Luckysmile? If you are functioning just fine with them then I wouldn't let anyone pressure you to go for a CI, although I think it's good that you are doing research on it now.

I only decided to get a CI because my residual hearing went kaput. I was doing well with hearing aids before that and saw no pressing need for a CI. However now I can't wait to have it.

I would think that as one ear is profound that you would probably qualify assuming that you have a normal ear construction and the ear was adequately stimulated with hearing aids since a young age.

I just got my surgery date! :wiggle: 9th of June. That's 6 weeks away.

Congrats! Great to hear that. Ummm, you probably want to get one of those countdown clocks... :D

Aww thanks!

I am sure the audiogist (sp) will test for you and see if you are qualifed for CI or not. I have been hearing the sounds all my life since I was about 2 or 3 years old. Till my left ear left me "dead" deaf due to car accdient about 15 years ago. So I am not quite sure if I will hear it again in same ear which is on my left. I will dicuss that with my ENT dr and get a better idea.

So good luck with CI processing! I am supposed to have surgery on May 31 but I had to post pone to July due to trip to Wild Wild West. :) I cannot wait to go to Los Angeles! It has been 2 years! :)

So keep us updated! We'll support you no matter what. My boyfriend don't mind me having CI though. You will be still deaf when you get CI no matter what.

WOW! I am suppose to have surgery on May 31 but good thing I wanna grab the fun in Los Angeles then surgery. So that's best idea that for me to wait till July. No July surgery schuduled yet so she'll call me back in May, which it is not a problem. :)

Good luck with the surgery!!! Let us know how it goes!

i am kinda happy half and half.. like i cant stand the HIGH pitch and the whistlings of my hearing aid.. it do ANNOY me.. sometimes cant hear well on phone but not always.. and other half is i do like to hear music.. hear plane.. hear car go passing by and so on..

i wear ha in my right ear since i was 1 1/2 yrs old.. i have tinnitus in my left ear.. i did wore ha for my left ear for 2 years abck when i was like 12 or 13 i cant remmy but it didnt benefit me at all as all i could hear was static thats it?? so i took it off and never wore it again.. only on my right ear..LOL..as i could hear clear on my right ear... not always.. like i cant hear mouse squeaking .. and few toher things..

i am happy for you, R2D2.. i will pray for ya when u have surgery.. as well for mama, too.. :)

Boy I thought my thread was lost! Whew it is still here! :giggle:

So not MUCH longer till my CI surgery yay!

NOTE TO MOD: can you merge my two thread in this one? Thanks! I thought I lost my thread but I found it. Thanks! :thumb:

Update!

I finally went to Audiologist today. I had my both CIs (I have 2 though) updated and set only 3 programs. So I am happy what I get! :) Program one is for everything, Program 2 is for beam to listen the conversations, etc and last is music which I wanted to start practice soon! :wiggle: My silver CI, I thought all program was wiped out but it returned. Weird! LOL! Other than that, it went well and sound is perfect, not too loud. I don't loud, it bug hell out of me. My pink one is a bit too loud and he adjusted it to same as my silver one.
