Oh so they have flutuating loss? Basicly, they're hearing but when they have ear infections they go mildly hoh? Does your son know about 504 plans? Those are for kids who while they may not have a disabilty, that's serious enough for an IEP they may have chronic health issues that may affect their learning.
Yes, they are hearing, but they do get very hoh when their ears are full of fluids. We seem to have a gene in the family for bad sinus/palate/nasal/ear structures. Various members wind up having some sort of reconstructive surgery for any or all of the above. I don't think he knows anything about 504 (I've never heard of it... what is that?) And I don't know what an IEP is either? Could you explain further?
Several of my grandchildren have issues that affect their learning. One granddaughter is dyslexic. One grandson has Asperger's (mild autism spectrum disorder,) these two belong to my daughter. And my son's youngest son has ADD/ADHD.
We also carry a family gene for the most severe form of celiac/sprue (I have it quite severely. It affects my memory, sleep, lots of neurological issues - including eyes and ears, etc.) So, we won the genetic lottery in our family. YEAH.
I can try to suggest various things to the parents, and do push for medical testing for the things I know are genetic, but ultimately - these are adults and they do what they think is best for their children as far as they are able. My job is to be supportive of their choices as parents, and to love on those babies!! (I'm very good at my job, too!
)
I will pass along any information you care to share, however. And, thank you for keeping me informed!
