Mother of a Deaf 13 Month Old

Ci

I would NEVER accept this medical society. I do respect for the adult who make their own decision but not the babies or toddlers.

The reality is that about 70% of babies are getting cochlear implants cuz doctors have a more powerful voice to the parents of the babies than members of the deaf community but important we give the parents who want their child to learn ASL too the support. It is those parents who think their children are "fixed" and now hearing that do not accept the deaf community and try to keep their children away from it. That is very sad to me. :(

son with ci

i am glad the deaf is getting more open about children with ci. my son has a progressive loss and received his first implant at 16 months. I am amazed at the progress he has made. he got tested on the 5th and he is hearing at 20dbd.across thje audiogram. he said my shoe the other day and i cried.. to hear your deaf child speak is a overwhelming joy!!!! each day is a new beginning.he is hearing at 50dbd in right ear with the hearing aide. no need to implant other side yet.. early intervention is the key!! it is a hard decision to make but we have not yet regreted any of it. We cant forget that he is deaf or can we not forget that he is not cured.but we are giving him an amazing oppurinity. We want the best for our kids !!! i hope as time goes on the deaf will see how amazing this implant can be!!!

Your daughter is sooo cute! Don't let anyone tell you she can't do this or that! It's good she's getting a CI so young...I didn't get mine until I was seven.
Welcome :)
