More Salmonella Cases from Tomatoes... Ugh

Been to Steak and Shake for a quick lunch today, I ordered Turkey club sandwich and it came without tomato, doesn't taste the same....

Yeah, if you SEE them in the grocery stores, they must be safe
to buy and eat..or they would not be there at all.
Im still leery about buying tomatoes..I guess the ones on vines
are ok but they are kinda expensive..
My tomatoes are growing now so it wont be long before we
can eat them..mmm, cant wait!!

Yes,I was thinking the same I got mine at Super Walmart and I know how walmart is about things like this because they don't want to get sue.

Sad!!! I watched news Tv.. Still problems with Salmonella cases!!!

also heard that its possible cause by animal's feces!!??

did you know that most of the gardens are fertilized by manures? usually cow manures to help them grow?

Wonder if you knew that or not?

Right they don't know what caused the tomatoes to be contaminated yet. They are still investigating...

remember last year in California spinach got contaminated and it was caused by sewer as it broke and caused lot of people to get sick..

so it could be anything...dead animals, animals feces, people's own feces.. whatever..

we just have to wait and see when they finally find the source. Hopefully soon.

I just pulled weeds in my flowerbed and guess what? I saw small tomatoes plants that I wasn't expecting to see. They were from last year's tomato plants! So, I dug them up and divided into FIVE tomato plants and replanted them. Now I'm excited about having five plants and am looking forward to tomatoes grown in my own flower bed, where I wud not have to worry about salmonella diseased tomatoes:)

I love tomatoes. :( The other day I went to subway and I wanted them to put tomatoes on my sub, but I didn't because I didn't want to get sick! Being sick is NOT fun! Too bad I live in an apartment, otherwise I would have a garden with homegrown tomatoes!

if you have a balcony... you could grow your own tomatoes in buckets as I have done that in the past. as long as you have stake and miracle gro plus water.. they are easy to grow. :)

or better yet.. have you seen the commerical where you could hang the tomatoes upside .. apparently it is the new wave of growing tomatoes? I dont know. I have seen few of those on the balconies on the way to town.. so i am curious to try this? now why dont you try this for fun? :) i am going to try this method to see if it does work. :)

We are growing tomatoes in a hanging bucket in backyard. So far it is working although there are only plants. No tomatoes yet.:D

yes, I heard about that. I am very disappoint. Because, I love eat a salad, but i can use cocktail tomatos. that is a bit expensive and taste very good, too.

Ive seen the hangupside tomatoes in some catalogs but
wonder why they dont sell them at nurseries, WalMart,
or anywhere?
I wonder if they really do grow tomatoes...I never heard
any success with these..Im just leery to buy them.
I have mine growing in whiskey barrels..doing just great,
got some little tomatoes growing already so wont be long
before they are ripe..cant wait!!
Let us know if any of you that do have hanging tomatoe
plants, do have any luck with these, ok?

Speaking of which, I have seen (in catalogs) ads for a "pomato". Has anyone tried growing this plant? It is a tomato/potato plant where you enjoy tomatoes all summer long and then dig up the potatoes in the fall just before the first frost. Cool, eh?

i am gonna try this method.. by using a big hanging planter and add soil and seed they should be ripe in fall.. i already have 6 plants in ground and they are pretty tall..

me too leery of them thats why i kept looking for a gro-bag but i hve no idea to where to get them?? my mom said use an old fashioned cow feed bag (they are soft) and put them in a bucket. cut out the hole in bottom i dont know if it will work? i am tempted to try it out ... but what if it fail? lol.. i would be willing to try anything....

as for winter time can use the plant light to keep them lighted all winter so u can have tomatoes all year round.

both ways like that?? :hmm:
