Relatives of 19-year-old Sid Skibinski-Gonzales say the tragedy never should have happened. The young man was celebrating with friends Saturday night at a home on Reseda Lane in Modesto when he drank an entire bottle of Bacardi 151 rum.

Police say he passed out shortly after. But when friends checked on him the next morning, Gonzales was dead.

Police are investigating if a parent, 42-year-old Billy Smith, who was at home during the party, played a role in the incident.

"We're not sure if he provided the alcohol or knew the young man was only 19 years old," said Modesto Police Department spokesman, Craig Gundlach.

Detectives and the district attorney's office are examining the case for possible criminal charges.

Relatives say Gonzales was kind, talented, outgoing and excited about an upcoming move to Colorado with his mom.

"He was so excited about his band and all the things he was going to do. Now he's gone and I can't believe it," said Victoria Jackson, Gonzales' cousin.

OMG!!! that's soo sad about him losing his life over alcohol poisoning is the worst there is especially 151 proof.... wow...

*sighs* that is so scary. I hope my and all of your children never do this. Important we tell our children that alcohol is just as dangerous as drugs are.

This brings up a bad memory. When I was 19 or 20, I drank a whole bottle of whiskey and my friends said that I passed out and stopped breathing. They shook me and I started breathing again. However, they brought me home and put me on my bed. I was like OMG..I could have died. From then on, I stopped drinking hard liquor ever. I was very lucky.

This is sad.

Sadly, this is true for NTID students... who have a serious drinking and drug problem around here.

All they care about is who gets drunk first, who drinks the most, who drinks the strongest, etc...

I've seen girls getting drunk and stoned... and have sex with a bunch of guys. They get pregnant, have miscarriages, and continue to drink and do drugs more.

I've seen guys getting drunk and stoned... and getting other women pregnant. The guys then tell those girls to fuck off... or become their boyfriend (unfortunately).

It's really sad that Gonzales was not being taught to respect alcohol.

So sad about this person who died..

Recently Sunday, there were huge party going on in Sylvania (Toledo area), 50 people were arrested and large numbers are under age, and had soo many keg of beers and etc and marijuanas.

Remind my mind story did happen....in Plymouth MN where is parent host graduate party with provide alcohol. Teen guys got killed by auto which car was tore up half!. State patrol investigation all teens was over .12 alcohol. Few next days later other teens admit that parent's place where held graduate party and they provide beers and whisty to some teens. Death kids's parent decide lawsuit for wrongful death cause other parent provide alcohol to kids who is underage. Sad story only one week later graduate from high school then end up short life.

yeah, it is pointless, like when it's my birthday, been told I must get drunk. I ask, why? " To see how manly you are", I said, yeah right, and then say, oh well, he died, that's life or sobbing, " I can't beleive it happen to him". Come on, get a common sense. I ask whats the point that you "have" to get drunk. I told them, I can't stand seeing that and seeing anyone get killed from that. Some saying oh, it won't happen. I said, those who died said the same thing. They didn't shunned me, they knew I meant it well, and seeing that I am a real friend who cares, not by seeing their lives destroying.

=/... -sighs- See. Some people aren't strong, they're open to suggestive material or actions. Peer pressure and all. It's our responsiblity to protect them, as friends. I would NEVER let a friend do something stupid as drink a whole bottle of any type of alcohol unless it's small. I'd kick his ass and pin him/her/drag them out of the party, even call the cops if I had to. Within the limits of sanity people for the love of god, you're not superman. Drinking alot of strong alcohol doesn't mean crap. Knowing when to stop and not make an idiot of yourself however, means everything.

It reminds me of in 2004 few friends and I was partying, somehow a friend of mine got so sick after drinking too much. One of our friend and I had to carry him to hotel room, so I stayed there for awhile and took care of him. I had to make sure he didn't pass out or whatever. When I had to go to sleep, I told our friend to watch him, so he did. Next day my friend had really nasty hangover and was very sick...

Lesson to this news story also mean friends better not leave a friend passing out- if its worse case sceneario, should call 911 because alcohol poisioning is very lethal, even can be death as well.
