MITx 6.002

MITx will offer a portfolio of MIT courses for free to a virtual community of learners around the world. It will also enhance the educational experience of its on-campus students, offering them online tools that supplement and enrich their classroom and laboratory experiences.

The first MITx course, 6.002x (Circuits and Electronics), will be launched in an experimental prototype form. Watch this space for further upcoming courses, which will become available in Fall 2012.

Nice. But I believe colleges need to change completely. They need to go back to vocational training method of education. Not arm-chair education. Second of all, they need to stop having many unnecessary courses for their majors. For example. You do not need English if you are taking Art Major. You do not need Biology if you are taking computer science. Liberal Arts need to go.

The expeneses of going to college is crazy these days as it has been forever. They need to stop charging students since all of us even in past we never had money when we graduated from high school. Never mind student loans and grants. That is the very problem with government spending. We need to change to go back to 1950's style of education. Half day of vocational training and other half in classrooms. Companies need to stop increasing requirements and stop tough rules regarding to employment. For example. In 1950's here in my hometown, a major company had over 500 drafters who were hired right away after high school graduation. I know those people. Today, that company has relocated and downsizing thanks to computers. I see the classifieds for employment. For same position, a CAD drafter as they are called nowadays. CAD Drafters in year 2000, before all changes in 2001, CAD Drafters only needed vocational training. Oh, that is additional education after high school. But now, same position, you are required to have Assoicates or even Bachelors just to be a drafter!!?? Come on!

That is why all education should be free and paid for by companies with true hand-on training for about six months full-time and then you are working for that company that paid your training.

If you want truly fully free education, go to some Middle East Country that offers free education. I know Dubai and Kuwait are offering free education because OIL pays for everything. They do not have national debit like we do. See what Obama has done? Terrible!
