Yeah.

I didn't mean to park in the a handicap parking.

Last night, I took my son to his 6th grade concert. I decided to park in the back of the school where its a convenient coming in or coming out to my home. There have many parking in the front and it has lot of lights that is more visible. In the back and small area of parking, and its a dark area. The ground is all black with white lines that are new. My son wanted to be there so early so we went there. There are an opening and emtpy parking. I know there are a few handicap parking on the right side. It was a dark parking area. I admit that I AM ignorant by not RE-CHECKING or LOOKING DOWN on the ground. WHY? There were no obviously tall handicap sign but there were a very fade lightly blue printed non reflected of handicap spot on the parking. When i saw the empty spot and didnt see anything on the ground.

Good enough, when we returned to the car. I still did not see the NOTE on my windsheild returing to home. The next morning, I spotted the note and realize that I mistakenly parked in the handicap spot. The note says " THANKS FOR TAKING A HANDICAP SPOT." Of course I felt lousy about it because i am DEAF and yet i m such an ignorant on other disabled people. Eh.

I sent the email to school and let them know that they need to set up a noticable tall handicap sign and re painted the dark blue and reflected noticable on the ground. I felt lousy.

did it ever happen to you before?

Not quite but close to what you did. I pulled into poorly marked spaces, and then realized they were handicapped spaces. I was able to notice that before leaving my car, so I pulled back out. I can see how it would be easy to make that mistake if the lines are faded and they don't have signs.

Yeah. My co worker said that someone who left me a note is an A%%H****. I told her that someone who may have fed up with someone else who parked in an illegal parking. I cant say, Oh someone who left me a note is... I completely understand. my co worker looked at me, and said, " yea the way someone wrote sounds nasty." cant win.

No, never happened to me but for you, that situation was bound to happen. It did and you reported it....nothing else to do, I guess except to maybe follow up if no action is taken in a reasonable time.

I have phrase for people who pinch disable parking, but I lady wont repeat it

No, but my stepmother was confronted by a man when she parked in a spot by the entrance of her neighborhood grocery.

I was not a handicapped spot, but he thought it was, and probably thought she looked defenseless and safe to take out his aggression.

Some people are always just looking for an excuse to bully someone.

No don't beat yourself up over it, the area wasn't lit and marked properly, and it was an innocent mistake on your part. The writer of the note may be aware of its location, but they didn't consider the fact that you have never used the parking area before, so you wouldn't have known. You're an awesome mom for taking part in your son's activities, that's where it counts, so no worries about that little spat FF OK?

Yeah. It just impacted me the first thing in the morning when i saw a note. I didnt see the note in my windshield last night and i drove home.

Ths next morning, I did check out the handicap spot and i can see the fade painted on the ground. So I had to report it.

I wonder if others parked on the handicap parking on purpose or didnt see it or without thinking twice checking it out. :dunno2:

You should had said to your co worker "I will have to remember to not let you borrow my car b/c I don't want to get a parking ticket for using in a handicap spot ." She sound like a real winner.

That is totally insane having a handicap spot where there is poor lighten and in the back of the school . There has to plenty of light so the person can see what they're doing. This never happen me b/c all the handicap spaces are clearly marked with a tall sign and sign on the ground .

.

That doesn't make any sense at all.
FF's coworker didn't say she likes parking in handicapped spots.

Really stupid to want to keep the hostility running over the world.

Well, .....in another thread, FF DID say she wanted drama occasionally. :giggle:

the disable bay should be near the shop with lamp post and shop lights near by...the chance of attack would be far away from shop and cctv looking at everyone...always carry key in your hand or pen although law probably arrest you for protecting yourself that life..the supermarkets usually full and I thought in America even more so...I watch disable drivers driving around near tears trying find a bay and that bad

just add if over certain age then be allowed park in disable bay

ADA require this for handicap parking , if the school does not have this they need to fix it. The middle school in my city had to made handicap accessible,
guess what it was done this year . The walkway to the front door was not
W/C accessible , a person had to use the driveway which was were the school buses came in .

I had a morning downtown bank visit to make. I rarely go downtown. I saw an open spot and parallel parked. Spent fifteen minutes in there and came out to find a $100 parkng violation on my car window. I was in the designated VFW parking spot tor a hole in the wall VFW I did not know was there. It had a nice neat little brown sign that from the car I could look up to see. So I got an opportunity to feel bad on many levels. Ultimately I avoid downtown like its a contagious disease.
The parking Nazis are among us proud of their ability to point the finger of shame at all the evil people.
For shame!

Was it dark, too?
It happened a couple of times, and I don't really recall the conditions at the time. Probably not real dark because I wouldn't park in an unlit area at night. Mostly the problem was it was an area new to me, and the reserved handicap spots weren't always in logical positions; that is, not closest to the doors of a building.

Around here, worse than darkness for visibility is rain. Whenever it rains, the painted lines seem to turn invisible.

agree with others that it isn't all your fault- it was dark and for me I don't think I would have considered that there were handicapped parking spots in the back of the school- only the front. Plus it was dark and not well maintained apparently.

The note could have been written a bit nicer though. Don't beat yourself up. Now the the school knows and I hope they follow up on that.
