The dizziness and tinnitus soon after surgery is pretty common. I was dizzy right up until switch on but you may improve sooner. Take it easy.

my cochlear implanted on my left ear. I had a dr. visit recently about 2 days ago on Thursday for a follow-up since my surgery and I am doing well and my lighthead and ringing in my ear will go away soon and that normal just like my dr. said. I can't wait til Sept 6 for the process turned on for the first time.

I am counting the days til my activation day. It only 4 more days to go. I am really getting exciting and little bit nervous because my husband told me that that when they turn the process on for the first time and you will hear buzz LOL but it normal tho

R2D2....I noticed in your signature that your activation will be on September 18 and that is also my husband and I's 3 years wedding anniversary. I will think of you on my anniversary and good luck! I hope you are doing well after the surgery on the 31st of August.

Aww thank you and I will think you you and your husband too :) I'm doing well and so far, no dizziness which was a pleasant surprise after the first time around. I also have experienced no tinnitus today as well. My only complaint is the numb tongue which prevented me from enjoying the Chinese I had last night but then I had some chocolate this morning and to my relief it tasted okay. That's all that matters :giggle:

4 more days! I remember how long it seemed until activation the last time. This time I think will be easier to wait, due to the fact that I can already hear.

AHHHHH IT TOMORROW LOL Tomorrow is a big day that it will be a first time that I will hear! hehe I am little bit nervous but I will be fine hehe

Good luck!!!! Remember to keep your expectations for the first few weeks low and then it will get better as your brain learns to use the new medium of sound. My first day sounded terrible but when I look at it now I just shake my head at how much I can hear.

hello everyone I am back... I had my first activation last week on Thursday, at first my audiogoist try to find my magnet to put on and trouble to find it cuz I have thick hair lol so my magnet is number 3, then I hear beeping sounds and jackhammer sounds that goes low to louder to find what I am comfortable to hear the sounds. then turn the sounds on to hear the voices but I hear nothing lol so had to move my magney around and then whoa that scared me cuz I heard the buzzing sound and voices but it sound like robot I still hear the buzzing sound with robot but it will go away cuz my brain need get to used the sound tho. I go back for my second mapping this week on Thursday

Hi Michelle,

I would try and address the magnet problem first, as you may not be getting a good lock from the processor to the internal device, which would affect what you are hearing. I have thick hair as well and have a number 5 strength magnet. Apparently, they even have a number 6 as well.

When I first heard voices they sounded like beeps to me as well, although that changed within a few hours. I also had a lot of static in the background but this improved over a few weeks and eventually completely disappeared without me noticing. So while it probably all sounds terrible right now it may be part of the adjustment process for you.

I just had my second mapping on Thursday and it sound better than last week....no more hearing buzzing except I still hear Robot and it should be go away soon. they did measuring, do beeping sound, and jackhammer of which one I am confortable to hear like not a very loud nosie. I had a hearing test in a booth and I did really well on my ci that now my db is 40 30. I go back for my third mapping on October 2.

Good to hear that things are improving and they will continue to improve for several weeks to come.

What program speed are you on by the way? It's possible that you might get more agreeable sounding voices if you are on a lower speed. Apparently, many people who are born deaf tend to prefer slower speeds on the Nucleus system. But I would wait to see how things go first over the next 3 months first because things can change a lot in that time due to the brain catching up with the new medium of sound.

oh yes, I forgot to add it. my first mapping was 17 channnels and now my second mapping is 18 channel. I did really well than my first mapping.

That's interesting - it sounds like your audie is gradually switching on your electrodes with every mapping?

The program speed is to do with cycle per second and is measured in herz. I started off at 2400 but came down to 900 as I thought sounds were more natural and I could hear more. The Nucleus freedom allows you to have different speeds according to your preference. People who were born deaf more often than not, prefer slower programs. I'm sure you and your audie will experiment with that further down the track. Usually at this stage they are just getting you used to hearing sounds again so maps tend to be pretty basic and crude.
