Not every protesters are peaceful nor law-abiding people as well. Do not forget - We have already seen dozens of protests resulting in violence/injury/arrests - most were injured by police or shot by police (tear gas gun/bean bag gun/pepper guns/etc) (gasp!) :)

and yes how do we know which one is a criminal or not? it's a fact of life we deal with every day when we walk in the public. that's why you are entitled to protect yourself (except in states that restrict it). :)

You seem to have forgotten the protesters themselves. I'm sure that protesters on both sides of a cause (pro or anti) have come to blows in the past.

If it turns into a riot, of course the police would try protect others or themselves by using force. You're suggesting the cops just stand by and do nothing while property and harm to others is being done?

And the results would be even deadlier if both sides were armed with assaults rifles and if we had no cops or swat to keep things under control.

Guns aren't the only way to protect myself. I don't have any weapons so I use common sense to stay away from dangerous elements. I don't do drugs (a lot of people die cuz of beefs and unpaid debts with dealers or dying while comitting crimes to score money for the habit), hang around with questionable people or walk into situations that I think might end up in a gun fight. Of course, even with all the precautions you can't avoid everything.

I could be unlucky and end up getting murdered cuz someone figured out how to work the deadbolt and my lock on my kitchen door and he is sneaking up on me while I'm typing up this post.

Oh yes, If I had a gun, it's possible he could overpower me and subdue me. I'm only 5' 2". I'm no Anne Oakley. That has happened to gunowners much bigger than me. Some people just can not pull the trigger on others. Many people die in their own home due to firearms like parents not being responsible and leaving a loaded gun lying around or because there was a family squabble, family members being shot by mistake cuz the gun owner panicked and shot thinking they were burglars etc.. I could go on and on but I think this will suffice. A lot of guns get stolen because someone broke in the house.

or..... a bag with pipe bombs like Atlanta Olympic bombing. It's much easier to do that than with a regular rifle :)

I think that would be a good way to get branded a terrorist. :P Second, I don't think our guys are as fond of bombs as they are of guns.

well if a person has an intention to cause harm or to silence the supporters by violence, then there's a lot easier way to do that than with guns.

you can be labeled as terrorist even with a gun. It does not have to be a bomb.

no I did not forget. Like I said - most so-called peaceful protests have resulted in violence.... without guns on either side :)

Maybe you're confusing it with Iran protests and the Basijis? :hmm:

That's why it's up to you. Nobody is forcing you to get one but I do not appreciated being forced to submit myself to government saying we do not need guns and they will watch us.

btw - statistically - accidental shootings in household is relatively insignificant compared to those who died to illegally-armed criminals (because the law-abiding citizens cannot own gun due to their state's high gun restriction or high cost of purchasing one) and statistically - many kids were killed by parental abuse than by firearms

Dunno, all I know is if I saw someone with a gun walking around, I would feel threatened. I mean how do you tell yourself not to feel that way, when gun is a tool that is designed to kill is in front of you? Yeah, I would feel like my life was endangered due to reckless move of their side. It's like they weren't think of others but themselves.

Man, I hope day where everyone carries one to everywhere doesn't come. It's bad enough having to deal with reckless drivers or smokers, but gun owners as well?

There are no more wild west where you can carry a revolver anywhere and anytime, sadly.

perhaps you should just stay at home? :dunno:

Oh interesting, black man with rifle is in along with people who protest to support reform now.

It's no threat to us because they don't have extreme aggressive attitude or misconduct during protest.

2ND AMENDMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you are still no threat if you notice citizens that carrying weapon with them unless if their attitude is extreme aggressive or misconduct so you can say so, it has nothing with gun issue.

You just need stand up with citizens who carrying weapons on public, however I do understand if you see about street gangs.

It was inappropriate and incredibly stupid to bring assault rifles outside a crowded presidential convention. There are better ways to protest than to publicly display killing machines in front of families. They created a lot of tension, fear, and an increased security risk.

I understand that citizens have the legal right to bear arms. But with that power comes responsibility and common sense.

tension? fear? increased security risk? I'm not sure but did you see the news or video clip I just provided? Do you see people with frightened face? Do you see police officer or Secret Service detaining him?

I remind you again - "Asked whether the individuals carrying weapons jeopardized the safety of the president, Donovan (U.S. Secret Service spokesman) said, "Of course not."

I understand that the armed citizen is outside the proximity of the president, so there is no reason to arrest him.

If there is no tension, why are there so many media cameras focusing on him? As Silentwolfdog and others have stated, they would feel threatened if they saw someone walking around with a firearm. I would too, especially if they were carrying an assault rifle and I had no idea whether they were mentally stable or the reason they are carrying the gun. Humans understand that a gun can end their life, and a basic instinct of humans is survival.

As for the increased security risk, I am talking about the crowd surrounding the armed citizen. Bringing a killing machine to a political rally is adding a dangerous element. It adds extra possibilities that threaten security, such as an the armed citizen getting into a confrontation or someone else taking a weapon out of a holster.

simple, silly.... it makes a great profitable news! :cool2:

We live in a world with differences. There are people who are not comfortable with the law allowing 16 years old to start driving and there are other people who are comfortable with it. You come from world with no gun. I come from world with gun. I am comfortable with gun and I am comfortable with people carrying it in public and I am comfortable with carrying gun in public. You are not comfortable with it and that's ok. I do not hold it against you but you should not hold it against us either.

You can stay at home or move to other state if you are terrified of gun in public but the Arizona law allowed them to carry it in public (except at government buildings or close proximity of school). So if you don't like this gun law within your state, simply move to somewhere that suits your needs. As far as I'm concerned, the Secret Service wasn't concerned with it. Nobody was harmed. It was a peaceful rally. No problem. Enjoy your day :)

btw - armed citizen rarely gets into confrontation. They are mentally-trained and the law also require them to avoid the confrontation at all cost. Some states allow a specific type of self-defense such as Castle Doctrine (or Stand Your Ground). The armed citizen will be charged with assault with deadly weapon or a more serious charge if using his firearm in a threatening manner - even by flashing the firearm or touching the gun just to show the force.

We armed citizens know better than unarmed citizens to not argue with petty minds over political difference. :)

Exactly, that what I got learn from you about being gun owner.

If you live in state that where open carry is legal then you will get used with it, you just need look at their attitude instead of their firearm.

Obama is anti-gun rights, that what we got voice against Obama so loudly and don't want repeat of Clinton's gun policy in past.
