Massachusetts teen convicted of homicide in texting-while-driving case

I was at first sad that he was charged with murder and thought that manslaughter would be a more appropriate charge. But when I heard that he was sentenced to 2.5 years and 15 with no license I was okay with the outcome. He will still have to live with this forever and so will the victims. Now my question is why aren't we this strict with DUI or DWI offenders?!

I would love to know the answer to your question too. I see people on TV that been arrested number of times for drunk driving and they're on the streets way too soon.

Really? For involuntary manslaughter?

it really depends on several variables like who got killed, what state, and driver's driving history.

Drunk driver gets life sentence in car collision that killed couple - latimes.com
A drunk driver convicted of killing a husband and wife on New Year’s Eve in 2010 was sentenced to 33 years to life in prison.

Jorge Alberto Molina, 29, apologized to the family of Kelvin and Demetria Dorsey who left behind five children before he was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Stephen Marcus on Thursday.

“He had such a disregard for life,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Kennes T. Ma said. “He was traveling at speeds ranging from 55 to 100 mph before he crashed into their car.”

Molina had a .21% blood-alcohol level when he was arrested on Dec. 31, 2010, following a brief high-speed police chase. The Culver City man ran a red light near Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. and crashed into the Dorseys' car. He then got out of his car and, without rendering aid to his victims, tried to run away before officers arrested him, Ma said.

The force of the crash caused the couple’s blue Infinity to flip on its roof, killing them, according to Ma. The Dorseys' five children range in age from 17 to 28, Ma said.

Molina, who had a prior DUI conviction, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident by a jury in January. Molina admitted to drinking a bottle of tequila and six beers before driving that night. He also had a bottle of vodka in his car at the time of the crash.

because they didn't kill/injure anybody but if they did, it would be worse than this boy. it could be life sentence.

But yet I could quote you case after case after case of people getting 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 7 and even more DWI/DUIs and still not going to jail for serious time! What is wrong with our system and it's values on life?! It's just plain sad and ridiculous. It needs to change before more are killed to this senseless tradgedy. You can take away their license forever and even their car and yet they still drive drunk! Get a cab, stay at home or use a DD!

I just told you. If the drunk ended up killing somebody, that's prison.

I got hit by crazy woman who had driver license suspended and I'm not happy that many people with suspended driver license still driving, even no insurance at all.

Just a few days ago, a girl who just graduated from our church's Christian high school, was riding a motorcycle when:

"a 19 year old girl talking on her cell phone pulled onto the highway in front of us"

according to her family's Facebook.

Now the girl on the motorcycle is in ICU with her spleen removed, a severely broken leg, MERSA, extreme pain, and semi-conscious.

The doctors say she should have a full recovery. However, that will take a long time. :(

Double post......................................................ggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

how do you keep in touch with people?

facebook... the other day, car wouldnt start(starter) and some young lady called the house for me. I got concerned and went inside local drive-thru pharmacy and used the phone.

That's pretty cool. I was riding with my cousin once. My baby was in the back in his carseat and she started texting. I politely asked her to stop. She refused. I demanded that she stop. She refused. So I snatched her phone, made her pull over and I drove instead. : ) I will be telling her father about this app. (She is younger than me. My car was not working at the time or I would have been driving in the first place)

Here in California it is illegal. There are signs posted all over the place that say "text and drive FINE $159 I don't know what impact it has had, I hope some at least!!
