i heard the news last few days ago......it said...

If you look up into the sky at night you may see a bright yellowish orange light in the sky that doesn’t twinkle. Mars will be closer to the Earth than it has been in 60,000 years On August 27th, 2003. At the same time, Mars will conjoin Uranus and oppose the Sun in perihelion.

i thought you want find out before it too late...

Uhh, I think it's too late since you said Aug 27th. Today is 29th.

I have seen Mars for several time in my life. I used own huge-ass telescope. :naughty:

But, it's wreck by my brat brother. :(

dunno if hawaii will be able to see it as we're the last ones that gets dark at night, but will find out soon :)

am intrested in looking at that :)

I got fowarded email from my grandma about "Mark Your Calender". Thought I let u all know about that. Very interested.

I got this from a friend. It should be pretty spectacular to watch
especially if you are up in the mountains where there is not much city
lights.

Never again in your lifetime, will the Red Planet be so spectacular.
This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars, an encounter that
will
culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded
history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit,
astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to
Earth
in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within
34,649,589 miles and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in
the
night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc
seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large
as
the full moon to he naked eye.

Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August Mars will rise in
the
East at 10 p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m. But by the end of
August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and
reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 a.m. That's pretty
convenient
when it comes to seeing something that no human has seen in recorded
history.

So mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow
progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share with
your
children and grandchildren.

No one alive today will ever see this again.

Ta very muchly for the information, Lunz!

Oohhhh I want to be able to see Mars. Hopefully I'll be with my boyfriend so that we can both stay up freezing at night waiting for Mars!!! I also need to get hold of a telescope... or is it bright enough to be seen by the human eye alone?

:)

What can I do? It's hard to get good picture. My digital camera can't take too well... :p

Try using a tripod and use night shot. It might help....if you can't hold it steady..it'll blur up the colors which it looks like it happened to your camera.

Also how much megapixel is your camera?
