Map: McDonald’s all-day breakfast pits muffins against biscuits

I haven't eaten at McDonald's since I was in 8th grade. Last time I ate at a Wendy's was probably about 8 years ago. I don't eat the Standard American Diet.

That "secret menu" thing is interesting....I checked out the "hack the menu" link. The only fast food I eat generally is Panera.
They have stuff on that menu that I didn't know about as "official" but some of which I'd likely put together myself as "make my own" kinda thing, since I don't eat dairy at all, or most meat and can't have anything with tomatoes at the moment. So a lot of times at restaurants I have to do my own thing and be creative.

We have a Panera in my city and I am not crazy about their food. When my family ate out dad always went to restaurants that served a 4 courses meal . Dad liked to take his time and eat his meal , we never had any fast food growing up .

Am curious what you don't like about it? Just wondering.
When you were a kid, did you wish you ate fast food? What about your mom, did she like to take her time, too? Did your dad do any cooking?

As a kid, my folks each had certain things they were especially good at making and when my mom went back to work part-time when I was in 8th grade, the food depended on what the work schedule was. My mom made a lot of kugel, and chicken, mac and cheese, pot roast, spaghetti....sometimes we had gefilte fish with lettuce and horseradish and salad....real Rye bread. My dad liked to do a lot of burgers and stuff on the grill in the Summer, and he made liver and onions and he still really enjoys Matzah brie.

When I was growing up we did sometimes have fast food, but it was a treat, and most meals we had a lot of veggies or salad too. The fast food was either McDonald's <rarely> or pizza or most often- Chinese food. We had a favorite local Chinese restaurant we ordered "carry-out" from, for many years.

Oh- one of my favorite things my dad made was salmon burgers. Probably where I got to liking fish.
And I remember as a child, him coming home in the morning from his third shift security work, and he'd make me pancakes for breakfast, then go to bed. I only realized later, of course, the sacrifice it was for him to come home so tired and take the time to make me breakfast and clean up, before getting the chance to go to sleep.

We always ate out at full-service restaurants, too. No buffets. No fast food restaurants. Some diners when we travelled cross country.

When I was a teenager I sometimes went to mom-and-pop pizza and grinder places.

I did ask for a hotdog when I a little girl but I got smart and asked for roast beef . The restaurant didn't have hotdogs . LOL! Dad grew in up Russia in the 1800's his family was dirt poor and went days with no food .They ate the byproduct of animals . Dad never forgot how poor he was and when he ate he wanted to enjoy every bite of his food. Mom didn't take that long to eat but I am always the last one to finish my meal like dad. Dad was a better cook but mom did most of the cooking .
Mom never baked any cakes or bread , she made apple crisp or we had ice cream. We had French toast cereal or eggs. Sundays breakfast was a big deal for dad , he had 3 or 4 kind of fish , boiled potatoes , half a grapefruit , some raw onion and a jug of ice water. Dad would stuff his mouth with food then tried to talk about growing in Russia . When anyone came to our house dad would want to feed them. Food was meant he was rich and successful . I loved dad spaghetti sauce , it was homemade and he would put lobster in it. I never seen anyone enjoy their food the way dad did. He was so worried it be taken away from him that he stuffed as much as he could into his mouth . He was really haunted about growing up so hungry .
