A man who skipped out on a lodging bill was later caught thanks to a common item he left behind in his hotel room.

Stephen Evans left a Welsh seaside resort in Llandudno after two nights without paying, according to news.com.au.

But Evans left his toothbrush.

Police discovered the mouth cleaning instrument in the vacant hotel room, and after having it forensically checked—in CSI fashion—found a match in their database to Evans, news.com.au reports.

Prosecutors said Evans had been kicked out of his home and had no place to stay. So he checked into the hotel using a false name.

Evans, 29, who is a plasterer in Llandudno, admitted to the charge of leaving the hotel without settling up the bill. He was ordered to pay $102 for the two nights he had stayed there, and $95 in costs. He was also placed under a four-month curfew, during which he is not allowed to go out from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day.

The incident may now give Evans something more to think about every time he brushes his teeth.

I wonder why there was forensics events in the databases on the guy in
the first place. He must of had a criminal record .

That is a pretty expensive way to catch a petty thief. SMH.

That's interesting about DNA test (there is no word - "medically accredited" in search engine).

In US, the hotels that where I slept, require credit card before get a hotel room.

Using DNA is good to prove that innocent people who have been in prison are innocent, but it still scares me that the government keeps DNA information on people. The government knows all our business and now they use our DNA against us. Maybe they'll make a law that when babies are born, the doctors will have to provide infant DNA samples to the government to keep files of everyone. Scary!

That's true...but feel the DNA database is very beneficial to rape/murder cases, even proving innocence for inmates....

So feel the good outweighs the bad here....

But as for the "Toothbrush" and a $100 dollar hotel bill....feel that's quite ridiculous...unless they believed he was a wanted man for other serious crimes.
