Man Rapes Deaf Woman In Daytona Beach - News Story - WFTV Orlando

A rapist attacked a woman who couldn't even scream for help. Police said the crime on the deaf victim is an outrage and investigators are relying on the public's help.

It's a crime the Daytona Beach police chief said should shock the conscience. Investigators are trying to get as much information as they could, but the victim in the case can't hear or talk. She had to write down on a notepad that someone raped her in the backyard of the house on Lewis Street.

Police investigating the scene Sunday morning found a vacant house and a stolen car in the backyard. That's where a woman, who is deaf and unable to talk, said a man held a gun to her head and raped her.

"She was targeted. She was walking down the street, merely minding her own business and she was assaulted by this individual," said Lt. Gorgi Colon, Daytona Beach Police Department.

The woman told police she started her morning by walking to a local store to get something to drink. When she walked past the house on Lewis Street, however, she said a young black man waved her over, convinced her to come to the backyard, put a gun to her head and raped her.

When it was over, the victim ran to a nearby park where she had to write notes to get a man outside to call police. Now police are hoping someone in the neighborhood saw something.

As Eyewitness News tried talking to neighbors, Monday, however, several were wary of saying anything, fearing they might be the next target.

"Next time, it might be your daughter, might be your mother. So if you know who it is, it behooves you to call us to get this kind of scum off the street and put him behind bars where he belongs," said Police Chief Michael Chitwood.

The fact that the car was in the backyard at the house may give police one clue. They said it was stolen from a bar down the street for the second time in four days.

The attacker was described as being between 18 and 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches with short, closely shaved hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jean shorts, white Nike shoes and a light blue hat. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Todd Barnes at 386-671-5217.

Omg that's horrible that they could target them. I feel so bad for them, that guy needs to be caught and put in prison for the rest of his life.
