Man in wheelchair mauled by pit bulls :(

hmmm...
a dog can be "owned" by a person but still not be socialized to, or appropriate with, people outside of the immediate family. Multiple dogs in such an instance increase the problem even more-

puppies and adolescent dogs who haven't learned to be around other people another risky issue simply because they lack maturity/impulse control.

These stories of dogs bites especially, the dangerous ones really sad and grief stricken.
My heart goes to the victims of such incidents and these dogs
needs to be euthanize or put to sleep (death) as they are not safe
to live among innocent people. Sad indeed.

there are many "pit bulls" <a loose term that people tend to use to cover from 5 to 7 actual actual breeds of dog> around simply because they are mistakenly popular as "macho" or "guard" dogs <they do not actually have the temperament for this that is actually more appropriate for a guardian type dog> , and they as a group - tend- to be extremely people-friendly if socialized to many people and are naturally more "forgiving" of cruelty and ignorant peoples' actions than many other types of dogs. This is due to the inherent patience and tolerance of many in this category....coming from their original background of some of those included in the "pit bull" label.

Yup, all the pit bull types I've known where big loves to people although some had dog aggressions because of lack of socializing. I think the key with any large breed is that they have the ability to do significant damage and need to be treated with the respect that comes with that. Just like a car, I don't expect it to hurt me or anyone but it is capable.

Little dogs are the meanest of all but usually can't hurt people much. If every time someone got bit by a chiwawa it made the paper people would think they where they where blood thirsty monsters.

:wave:johnnyghost,

dog-dog aggression in the pit bull is possible and sometimes <again, sometimes> common. There is a range of tolerance levels toward other dogs. Dog-dog aggession does-not- translate to aggression to people as it seems like you know, but many people in general do not.

Little dogs can be aggressive toward people because they often are carried around and hidden in bags and strollers, with no opportunities to actually act like dogs and experience the world. Lack of experience creates distrust, which can lead to fear. Fear can lead to aggression. Little dogs also are more likely than bigger dogs to perceive people as looming giants doing strange and stupid things with and to them, and so will become fearful.
Many people also excuse the actions of little dogs as "cute", over-protect them. An/or transfer their own anxieties onto them, through how people react with the little dog <pressing their little dog against their chest and acting worried about another person or another dog will create anxiety in that little dog and over time lead to a fearful response by the little dog>.
