An unidentified man was arrested Saturday after he threw hot coffee on protesters from Westboro Baptist Church while they picketed the funeral of Beau Biden, Vice President Joe Biden’s son.

The man threw the coffee at the protesters when they were packing up their things following nearly an hour of them holding up objectionable signs and singing insulting songs ahead of Beau’s funeral, the New York Daily News reports.

Beau, the oldest son of the Vice President, died at the age of 46 one week ago from brain cancer. He served in Iraq for a year in 2008 and 2009 as a lawyer for the Delaware Army National Guard and was the former attorney general of Delaware.

Three protesters were sent by the notoriously hate-filled Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, to picket outside St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, where the service for Beau was being held.

The protest was aimed not only at Beau, but the Vice President himself.

"Joe Biden has enraged the LORD his God, such that His judgments are upon Biden and his family in wrath," the Westboro Baptist Church wrote on its website. “As for Beau Biden, his life was cut short by the will of God to whom all glory is given and he has an eternity of answering to the Lord for his own words, thoughts, actions and sins."

The protesters were met by a much larger counter protest singing Amazing Grace and holding American flags, reports USA Today. Some of the participants held pink signs to block the Westboro posters.

As many as 100 counter protesters were present at a given time.

There presence only encouraged Westboro member Shirley Phelps-Roper.

"This is where the eyes and the ears of the nation are today," Phelps-Roper said.

It sounds to me like the Westboro Baptist Church needs to spend more time reading the Bible and less time protesting at funerals.

And they weren't that close to the church, of course, due to the secret service security. So people actually going to the church probably didn't even see them, do basically wasted their time.

Oh im sure they read the bible enough, after all its where they get their justifications.
In the end
Its their right to be assholes, and that right needs to be protected.

Getting angry enough to physically do something back against WBC is exactly what they want you to do.

- It gives them TV exposure to state their points of view and to show that the rest of the public is out of control.

- You touch one of them and they sue you in court. That is how they make their money to support their ability to travel across the country and fund their protests.

The Patriot Guard Riders take a different approach.

- We stand as a visual barrier so the veteran's family and friends do not see the WBC protesters by holding large American flags.

- The funeral procession is guarded by the PGR from the funeral home to the church or facility to the final resting place. We block from all sides if necessary by riding in front, middle or back of the procession.

- We never speak to the protesters. Turning your back and ignoring them frustrates them most and they give up and leave.

WBC usually contacts a deceased member's family threatening to show up to upset them. Most of the time they never show.

You should print this the newspaper as an open letter . It's so right on!

These pics are from this past Saturday's funeral near here. Marine who was killed in the crash of their helicopter in Nepal last month on a rescue and supply mission.

The funeral was supposed to be private, just family and friends........then WBC contacted and threatened all families of those killed that they would show up and protest.

PGR was asked to help and as you can see, we did. No protesters here, but they did show up to VP Biden's son Beau's funeral because of all the press coverage.

You should post some way to contribute to the PGR if there is one maybe some would like to support them a little in their efforts.

That is not freedom of speech to me it harassment , I wish the protesters could be arrested . I went to pay respect to a fallen solider from my city. There was a long line of people on both sides of the street and bikers were ahead of the funeral procession to keep any protesters away and WP did not show up. It was raining rather hard too but this did not keep people from showing up. The family was really touched by all the people paying their respect to their son. I could read the mother lips as she said "Thank you'' as her car drove pass us. It was so sad to see the cars drive toward the ocean more time b/c it was the hero favorite place to go . I wish Biden funeral could had been this way too with no WP protesters . They're so disgusting to me.
