Maintaining long hair?

I tend to let my long hair down while I go to bed without something to hold my hair. It was uncomfortable for me. However, I do like having something in my hair during the day time. I use the style clip hair and simple colored rubber bands. First of all, I sure put lots of chemials hair products in my hair. :o I keep using the switching of 4 pair of shampoos/conditioners and one heavy treated conditioner some days. I sometime don't shampoo my hair everyday. I just put clip in my hair and zoom to work. lol! so far my friends haven't say "how bad your hair is." i guess my hair is in a ok condition.

My hair does not follow any cosmetology rules.

Rule #1: After getting a perm, you shouldn't wash or get your hair wet. Perm will not set correctly, resulting in no curl.
At age 14 I went to a pool party after getting my hair permed and swam in a heavily chlorinated pool. The result? I had super model hair.
Rule #2: Never use chemical hair dye on already hair colored with natural hair dye called Henna. The 2 dye's will react, resulting in hair not taking color, or hair breaking off at the edge of the colors.
Just recently I decided to color my hair a darker red. I have been coloring my hair with henna. I bought chemical hair dye. My niece is in beauty school, kept asking me if I was really sure if I was going through with it. My hair not only took color but is in wonderful shape.

I have really nautrally curly hair that I keep longer and straight.

I have a really good shampoo and conditioner that I use plenty of before hand. After I dry before I straighten, I have a protection serium I run through my hair that prevents too much damage.

I generally stay away from things like perms and permanent straighteners. They end up doing more damage than good. I don't dye my hair yet either.

I do recommend Hello Hydration by Herbal Essence, and use them seperately not the two-in-one.

The Bed Head line also has some really good products for curly hair. You may want to check that out. :)

I have naturally curly hair that tend to curl up at the ends. It's quite fine. I've always wanted long hair but I look awful in long hair so I keep it either short or to chin length. Plus I have a long face so long hair won't be flattering to me anyway. I like my inverted bob.

There's Something About Whatdidyousay

And what it there about me! It is very common for people to try different things on their and body ! Some people spend a lot of money on products to made their hair look good and some girls that had curly hair in the 60's tried to iron the curls out with the same iron we used for our clothes!

Wirelessly posted

My hair grows very slow, just trim it when it needs it. I have course thick wavy hair. I do get flat iron work from time to time. I noticed since using Pantene shampoo and conditioner its tamed. I recently, bought Garnier so far I like it.

I will try that, Sheila. Hope it works! I have frizzy hair when the weather is dry but the curls are definitely a lot better than before. It is weird.

My hair is getting gray and I it find hard to keep my gray hairs from being so rude! They just do not listen to me , I tell them to lay down flat and then keep poking out. I wear my real short , I would love to have long hair again
but I do not think it will look good with all my gray hairs! I was hoping my hair would turn white , I think white hair is prettier than gray hair!

When I was a child my parents always had my hair cut kind of like John-John Kennedy. All bangs and not much else.

Then at 14 I rebelled and refused to cut it anymore, and by the time I cut it, it was waist length.

After I had my first baby at 22, it was too time consuming, so since 23 year of age, it has been pretty much like my parents liked it.

Really easy to care for.

When I had my baby she would try to get in my lap by pulling herself up using my long braids! I left like that woman locked in the tower with long hair !

I am debating whether to let my hair grow longer or to cut it off again. All it does is frizz and I don't like having it in my face. I keep it in a ponytail to keep it out of my face, but then the weight of the ponytail gives me a headache. Right now, it's about 5-6 inches below my ear. Slightly thick, but I lose about 100 strands a day easily, but it still stays thick. Not massively so, but still enough that a ponytail band will only go 2 times around most times. I am a wash and go type of person. No blow dryer, curling irons, flat irons, heat rollers or any rollers. I use Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Oil shampoo and conditioner, but I hate using a conditioner. I am not going to be putting anymore hair color on, as it's just too time consuming and doesn't last long enough. My hair grows too fast.I colored it 8 weeks ago and I already have 43 inches of new growth that has a lot of grey in it.

Sounds like me (wash 'n go, thick, heavy, out of face). I just recently had mine cut back up to my earlobes (it was probably about 4-5 inches below). Much lighter now.

Short hair is harder for me to take care of because my hair is pretty straight and cutting it short makes me look like a boy, unless I spend a lot of time on it, which I refuse to do. So I get my hair cut about every two years, just to my shoulder blades. I recently got my hair cut shorter and have regretted it. My hair motto is "I spend 30 seconds styling my hair. If I have to spend 31, I'll shave my head!" :laugh2:

To keep longer hair looking nice (and I'm saying this as an old retired hairdersser), don't use cheap products on your hair, but you don't have to spend a fortune either (I use Tresemme, Garnier, or Aussie, I don't buy "professional" products). If homemade recipes work well for you, go for it!

The fewer chemicals you use (perm, color, etc.) the better, although you can follow chemical treatments with light, good quality conditioners the first few days, then move to deeper cleaning and conditioning.

Everyone's hair and scalp is different. Just find products that make your hair shine, leave it clean, not greasy, and de-tangle well. Watch for drying, and upgrade your choices if it starts (a friend of mine's hair dries out if she uses baking soda).
