Wow, yeah I've heard about the G5. Is it out yet? I saw the eMac which looks pretty good, I wouldn't mind having that. How much is the G5 going to cost?

G5 has release last month ago. It start sell at $1,999 without monitor.
I saw in real-life. Damn, it's bigger than latest G4 model.

eMac is very nice, fastest, and affortable. :)

in the old days, when i was more naive, i was a windows user. then i got smart :) and made the switch to the mac (os9 at the time), which was a good experience - no complaints at all. as a graphic designer, i was able to do everything i've ever needed or wanted to do on my G3. then came osx, which just blew my mind. i'm never going to look back at the windows world and wish i was still there!

truth be told, there are some things that windows may be good for, but i have had a very hard time finding anything at all that the mac does which isn't as good (or better) than the pc. its user-friendliness makes it an ideal machine for even a 70-year old grandma or a 4-year old kid - i can't say the same for the windows platform, really.

besides, who can deny that mac's hardware and operating system (and all the iapps) are simply beautiful?! its advanced graphics really makes the graphics on the windows platform look so lame. and to think, the windows "advanced" graphics was one of the big things that microsoft was excited about when they released winXP! *snicker*

another thing you may notice about the mac world: its fans are so passionate about their computers. you certainly can't say the same for windows users. most windows users (that i know, at least) are only interested in having a computer that does the work for them, is capable of playing WarCraft III, etc. (the mac can play plenty of games, by the way). members of the mac world are members of an unique "culture" - that's how passionate mac users are!

a funny thing to note: go to a bookstore and look in the magazine section at the windows and mac magazines. notice how much of the windows magazines are devoted to trouble-shooting, avoiding viruses, protecting from crashes, dealing with your migraines, etc. while the mac tends to be more focued on functionality, beauty, innovation, productivity, and sleeping well at night. really.

go ahead, take a look. :)

Man, your post made me miss my free 2 years subscription to MacAddict. What a damn fun magazine!! : sigh :

I'm a mac person, but more importantly, I'm a USABILITY person. A large majority of people use PCs simply because of its popularity, but thats not a valid basis for choosing something.
The right way to approach it is by what you need. If there is a reason to need one system over another, by all means, pick that one.
Macs are known for their graphics, desktop, video and audio capabilities. (in other words, for creative pros.) if you need a computer for any of these reasons, its likely a good idea to pick a mac.
For 'ease of use', it has also been statistically shown that macs are better. (a company called garner group has done research on this, a mac becomes much cheaper when this is factored in.)
For games, a PC or console will do.
For 'build it yourself' capabilities, a pc is also good.
Businesses also overwhelmingly choose pcs.
Some people also have specific applications that they MUST have (often for business reasons).. most often that means they are effectively stuck on the pc.
So the right way to phrase the question becomes not mac or pc, but .. What do you need? the answer to this determines the answer to what computer you should buy.
