Then read this:
"You're headed for a one-term presidency," he told Obama at the start of their meeting, insisting that the administration needed to be more business-friendly. As an example, Jobs described the ease with which companies can build factories in China compared to the United States, where "regulations and unnecessary costs" make it difficult for them.

Jobs also criticized America's education system, saying it was "crippled by union work rules," noted Isaacson. "Until the teachers' unions were broken, there was almost no hope for education reform." Jobs proposed allowing principals to hire and fire teachers based on merit, that schools stay open until 6 p.m. and that they be open 11 months a year.

Steve Jobs Biography Reveals He Told Obama, 'You're Headed For A One-Term Presidency'

Do the math.

Jobs' right.

If he truly felt that way, he could have done something about it.

Apple has enough money to put $500m to education in EVERY STATE, and still have $50B++ left over.

But no, he wants people like you guys to be dumb and "feel the need" to buy his stuff again and again.

why should he pay for it when states are incompetent? we need real solution, not quick fix.

and btw - his products are not cheap so dumb people can't afford it anyway :)

I bought a mac... because it does have a bit higher quality... I didn't want to have to replace a pc every 2 years, I didn't want to support HP (which my dad worked for at the time I bought my mac) or dell... companies that are actually DESIGNING their products to fail after 18 months just so people will buy more... and I see it happening all the time... where I work... peoples hp motherboards fail after 15 months, so what do they do? go buy another one...
I think its a fault of the way our society is right now... not only big business corporate side of things... but our society... the way we are trained from a young age, that we have to have "the best" that we have to be consumers... and that we don't learn to actually use and cherish what we have... our society is currently so technologically driven, that after a year or two, things are "out dated" anyways... so why not design things to fail so that people will have to buy new products, which makes the rich richer and the poor poorer... just like our society is so focused on what we can get, rather than what we need... so many of todays kids don't understand what need means... they think it is synonymous with want... and this is our future? that is what scares me...

I can see your point PFH, but I don't think it comes down to that mac users suck... I think it more comes down to the fact that our society, the greater society, has forgotten what it should be, what it could be, and has made the difference, that is what sucks... or at least... that is my opinion.

side note: thank you for posting that video... I didn't know the history, now I do.

. oops double post... stupid mac :P

Well, I wouldn't make a hypothetical argument like that to point out that Jobs doesn't really know what he's talking about except when it comes to computers (which is debatable), but I agree with your last sentence. This whole glorifying of Jobs since his death is very annoying. I like Maddox's comment:

Everyone hyperventilating, repeat after me:

I am not defined by the products I buy. My computer is not a part of my identity. My computer is a tool. And like all tools, it’s only useful if I make it useful. A brand is not a lifestyle. I don’t owe gratitude to a billionaire I helped create. Steve Jobs was a business man who charged exhorbitantly for his products. He didn’t do us any favors. He didn’t make us. We made him.

The reason I said that Mac users suck - is because they are almost like CI advocates... I've gotten this... "Let's VP and I will get you to buy a Mac NO DOUBT." "Its so easy..." "Have you ever played with an iphone?"

It's disgusting to me. Then the whole parallel of things prompted me to make this thread and in an emotional fit, I threw in Mac users suck.

I still stand by my opinion.

Then am I the abnormal mac user? I know macs aren't right for everyone, just as I know PC's aren't right for everyone, just as I know Linux isn't actually right for most people. People have to have an understanding of what they are using before they can use anything effectively...

Yes, I was surprised to be reminded that you use a mac.

I agree. In our family, we have Mac, and Windows PC and netbook. I've owned Mac and Windows computers both over the years. I'm comfortable using both. My brother is the same way. He can work on both of them.

I love Macs and I hope to own another one one day. I would keep both Macs and PCs. PCs have a wider variety of games so that's why i'd own both.

You didn't read the whole story, did you? Steve Jobs warned him that with excessive regulations, Obama will be a one term president but *offered* to help his campaign.

I guess I suck. Thank goodness Macs were donated so every high school student at my school could personally keep a Macbook to and from school.

Donating computers to public schools was one of Steve Jobs' shrewdest business decisions. The idea was to get students accustomed to using Macs so that when they purchased computers for themselves/asked their parents, they would get Macs, since that is what they were used to using at school. Apple first started doing this back in the 80s and early 90s, at a time when very few families had a computer of their own. The only way most children go to use a computer was at school.

Apples "generosity" sure did pay off. . . .

I have never used a Mac or any Apple product. I'm really behind times and broke.

I couldn't agree with Jobs any more. That is why I called our government a truly dysfunctional, and these government administration including all congresspeople are just kissing 1% of Golden and diamond infested asses. They do not give damn about the rest of 99%.

oh come on.

Microsoft did similar donation to elementary schools too and educational discount on software for college students. majority of Redmond's public functions (where Microsoft is located) is basically funded by Bill Gates. amazing.
