Mac games

That's exactly what I did when I played Myst.

One was the piano. At first, I heard the sounds. I then tried to duplicate the sounds, but I couldn't figure out the right keys. I just peeked in a strategy guide at a local bookstore for that one. :)

The other was the rotating platform. In order to rotate the platform properly, you have to be able to hear the pitch that determines when to stop. I barely got that one right.

I forgot all about that piano! That is quite a pain in you-know-what! I had to look up the answers in my favorite link: UHS: Hint Files It doesn't show all the answers right away. It gives you hint and you can ask for more hints until it give you answers. It is perfect if you get stuck in some game.

Wasn't it also Myst (or a sequel? Might have been Riven) where you have to set up a machine based on the sounds that can be heard in certain places. So to activate area A, you have to select the particular wind that can be heard at area A. Or birdsongs at area B.

I remember that puzzle because there was another Myst-like game called Alida, where the whole island is set up like an enormous guitar, and it also had some "identify the ambient sound" puzzles that reminded me of that one. (Alida is quite awesome but I don't remember how deaf-friendly it is as I played it years ago. There might be more than one sound puzzle.)

I've used UHS too for other games. At first, I thought it was good... but it got annoying.

Back then, online FAQs were not common. Now, they are... GAMEFAQS.COM!!!

I use that instead of getting those guides from the store. :)

The games in the series are... Myst, Riven, Exile, Revelation, and End of Ages.

They recently released Myst for the Nintendo DS.

There is another series similar to Myst... The 7th Guest, The 11th Hour, and The 13th Doll. These are horror versions and take place inside buildings. The 17th Guest and The 11th Hour were made by the same company. That company promised a 3rd game called The Collector, but never finished it. Fans got tired of waiting for the 3rd game and decided to create their own called The 13th Doll. When The 13th Doll is completed, it will be released to the public for free.

Of all the games I mentioned, I've only played Myst (25% complete) and The 7th Guest (75% complete). Since the puzzles in The 7th Guest didn't rely on sounds, I was able to figure them out on my own. The reason for not completing it 100% was because I was playing it on my friend's computer. He finished the game at 100% on his own, then lost the game.

If they had a subtitled version for all the games I mentioned above, I would definitely buy them all. :)

Yup, there's good news...

Call of Duty 4 will coming on Mac version in May 2008 and Spore will coming on Mac in 2008, same date with PC version.

I'm in hoping for Sim City Societies to be port on Mac in this year, just expected.

COD4 on Mac Version, that means there's no trainers at all, also no Boot Camp needed?

Bootcamp is program to install windows at general, able to run PC games (non-Mac) and run any applications that only to windows.

COD4 on Mac version would come out on May 2008 and it's great for everyone who own Mac with no bootcamp, just like me, I don't have windows on bootcamp anymore, or even if some people are rather to run on Mac version.

I have no idea about trainers.

Trainers is like a program that enable hacks, cheats, etc. I hope there's none in mac, so we could say COD4 is the cleanest game for MAC USERS only. HA!

I'll believe it about Spore when I hold it in my hands.

I did read that the other day. Apparently EA is now releasing several games on both platforms on the same date.

That's a game I would like to try out. I'm a fan of Will Wright.

That game has been postponed so many times no one believes release dates anymore. Maybe we'll get lucky this year.

Pacman, you have ps3, X360 etc. why you need to add video game on your MAC? will you play videogame on Mac everyday?

There's exclsuive games on computer that has never ported on game consoles, such as The Sims 2, Sim City 4, The Movie, Spore and other simulation games are popular on computer. I prefer to play The Sims 2 on Mac/PC version because of full version, more features and a lot of expansion packs over consoles.

Simulation games on consoles are sucks, I just prefer to play on Mac or PC version, easier to control, faster to load due installed in hard drive and add more expansions.

I like some racing games on computer too, same goes to few FPS games too.

Pacman, Oh I respect your opinions. I tell you, console is not friggin sucks, period. I am a die-hard CONSOLE GAMING completely. the game pad in my hand to control and easy to play. GamePad is COMPLETELY DOMINANT in the world.

anyway good luck.

Excuse me, I don't think that you understand what I was said about game console. I said simulation games are sucks on game console due control (gamepad), limited feature and not support 3th party download, simulation games are The Sims 2, Zoo Tycoon, Roller Coaster Tycoon, The Movie, Sim City 4, Hospital Tycoon, Spore and others, it is part of genre of game titles.

Console is just fine for racing, FPS, TPS, RPG and action games, some FPS/TPS are better to play on PC or Mac, such as Halo, UT 2004, Doom 3, Red Faction, COD2, Gears of War, UT3 (both of GOW, COD4 and UT3 are upcoming games for Mac) and other few games for Mac and Bioshock, TC Six Vegas, GRAW, UT3, GOW, COD4 and other some games on PC, that reason because of mouse and keyboard but its depends on gamers that how feel comfort to play games on PC/Mac or consoles.

I was just playing racing games so better on PC than console does, such as NFS series.

Let back on topic, this thread is only discuss about Mac games, please do not debate with me or others, plus I have nothing to against on console.

I believe Pacman is right about some games being better controlled by a mouse interface, such as the Sims, Starcraft, Warcraft, Civiliztaion, etc etc etc. Also it is well known that a mouse is much quicker and much more accurate for a FPS game than a controller gamepad can be. There even is a mouse controller for the PS3. It is because of this that a lot of console games have auto aim assist while PC games traditionally don't.

So on topic to the thread, Pacman. You know I have a MacBook, which games would you recommend me to get or download to start? I don't mind having a few games to play on the laptop since I don't have a GBA/DS/PSP at the moment.

MacBook has some mac version of games that's playable with Intel GMA, after according from other forum, plus graphic setting need to be settled.

There are subtitle patches for those Myst games. Like this for example: Apple - Downloads - Demos & Updates - Myst III: Exile Make sure there is patch for all of those games before you buy those games. You got to download those patches and run them after you have the game up. Now go and hunt down those games! :) I doubt there is a patch for the first one.

Thanks for telling me about other games. I will keep an eye out for the 13th doll and hope there is a subtitle patch.

Once I play a game (forgot the name of the game) and I had to guess which birdsound is being played. Oh boy, that took me several tries until I got it. That piano bit on Myst - I had to cheat by looking at the answer online.

Phoenix Wright games for Nintendo DS are very good and I love those games. It is about a lawyer and you get to investigate and figure out which answers Phoenix should be asking. All in captions. :)
