Louisiana Governor declares emergency ahead of Gustav

Yes, it´s really very sad. I watched on news TV yesterday :( My heart and thought goes with you and your family.

I got hold of my family down in the Cajun country ,, they said they are doin ok.. and gustav missed them by goin west to Shreveport area. glad they was ok..

It already caused at least $14,000 in my parent's yard. My parents have not yet had the chance to inspect the actual house, though.

$14,000? Yikes! That doesn't sound good. Hopefully it doesn't rack up when your parents has a chance to inspect the house thoroughly. At least the insurance (I'm assuming ur parents does have one for the house) can help, somehow. If not, that won't be pretty either.

I got word from other couisn,, his house is in half now...due to Gustav.. he lives south of Baton rouge closer to New Orelans

The $14,000 was the loss of their Airstream travel trailer. An enormous pecan tree was dropped on the trailer and split it in half. That's the only damage. The house is fine. I'm going visit them next weekend.

Where in Cajun country?

It is in southern area of Louisiana and deep east end of Texas that not far to coast.

I love cajun food, some are spicy, yummy.

I went to New Orleans at twice and Houston at 4 time.

Edit, I found link about more info on cajun country (known as acadiana), it's most part in southern Louisiana but wrong about east end TX that closer to Louisiana, I'm considered about New Orleans as under cajun country since they have heavily cajun influence, even they got great cajun restaurant but red mapped isn't included on New Orleans and Jefferson Parish.

I said, "Where IN Cajun Country?" Not, "Where IS Cajun Country?" I was born and raised in a small town right smack in the middle of Cajun Country. I was drilled on our culture, upbringing, cooking, and traditions. I studied quite a bit of Cajun Language, Culture, and Geography in college (yes, a major university IN Cajun Country). Therefore, I feel confident saying that Cajun Country is NOT any part west of the Sabine River nor any part east of the Atchafalaya Basin. Baton Rouge and New Orleans is NOT considered part of Cajun country, culture, or geography. Those that live in that area sometimes call themselves Cajun (incorrectly), telling the whole world that they are Cajun just because they live in Louisiana.

Sure, there may be some Cajuns scattered throughout the world (such as myself), but your statement that Cajun Country extends into east Texas is incorrect.

Acadiana is not the same as Cajun Country. Acadiana covers a much broader area than Cajun Country. Acadiana is a 22 parish region which extends much further than the traditional boundaries of Cajun Country. Not everyone who calls themselves an Acadian is really a Cajun, but very few people know the difference.

Please do not make comments or statements about Cajun Country, culture, literature, cooking, traditions, etc. unless you are qualified to do so.

Improper representation may insult a genuine Cajun.

Whoa, chill out, man, I was just misread, sorry.

For bold, how? I have no idea what are you talking about like that? I was just misread and show a link, also blame on wikipedia for being misled about between acadiana and cajun country.

I don't know who are you, especially if you are genuine cajun.

Additional, thanks for clarity about cajun country.

I'm sorry to hear about that, but the most important thing is, your parents are safe. Things can be replaced but a life isn't.

Interest here about Cajun. My father in law was part of the culture and he did not tell me much about it except for food and little bit of cajun speak. I have heard of Acadian thru family tree on his side. Thanks for the info.
