Being deaf, what are some of the things in life you feel that you are missing out on and how do you change your life around as you accept your deafness by taking what actions or steps to make your daily life easier.....For those of you who isn't able to accept or handle your deafness, how are you able to live your life in the most positive way knowing that life is too short to hold on something that you can't change for the fact that you are deaf?...

Music is missing in my life. Missing listen to the sounds of life alike singing birds, thunder, rain, river, etc things come with nature. I use those images to know what sounds alike, it helped me alot to accept who I am.

But then, we have something the hearing people do not have.
We can understand the noise and music of silence, the sound of an angelic chorus in seeing a fawn in its uncertain steps in a meadow, the sedate whisper of the trout in the stream, the gaiety of a butterfly in flight...
In my opinion, only the deaf can answer that Chinese riddle of what a hand clapping sounds like.

Only one thing that I feel that I miss something... Being a Air Force pilot. That is my longtime dream to be a Air Force pilot but I found out that I couldn't due to my deafness.

Flying an airplane through the air & clouds that have lot of dogfights *sigh*

Other than that, I care less about these...

While you couldn't be air force, there is nothing stopping you (except possibly time and/or money) from being a private pilot. No dog fights but you can still enjoy the clouds.

We do miss alot from being deaf like we cant hear music, or words that the actors and actresses are saying, or news on the radio.

Me, being hearing, I can say what I miss out from being deaf. I miss out on peace and quiet. One example, listening to a mother yelling at her kid for hours straight on a trip. I really wish I could have been able to block that out.

Yeah. That's what I plan to when I am done with university and all so I can have some extra time for that pilot school or something to recieve the flying license to fly a small airplane.

But still, I want the dogfights and all... or even flying an B-2 stealth bomber. Well, I am not complaining about my deafness, I accepted the harsh fact many years ago.

Although I can hear exceptionally well with the benefit of using a BTE--the thing I would consider missing out on would definitely not able to hear all sorts of sounds associated with swimming at a pool or beach....

It did take me such a long time to fully accept my hearing loss, I guess it might be because there have been times when I was much younger and felt left out of certain functions, group gatherings, etc...simply because I couldn't fully hear everyone from all directions...but such a 'burden' was lifted off my shoulders once I went about my daily ways by accepting for a fact that I DO have a hearing loss and that there is nothing to be ashamed of as well.

good thread, Angel but isnt there another thread "Growing up Deaf" in here that is about the same thing?....

Thanks Defee, umm actually I created that other thread " Growing up Deaf " is more about when was the time you became deaf and what your life was like growing up....This thread is about what you missed out being deaf, I thought of keeping those two issues separated.... You think it wrong to do that?...

i think what i miss out on the most is music and the easy communication with hearing people ( im not saying i cant communicate wiht hearing people.. but what im saying is.. it would be nice if im able to understand what they were saying without much of struggles and could reply back as easily too... less left out feelings ya know?)

Actually, I don't feel missing out but sometimes I feel yes.. little bit missing..

I do not want hear anything YELLING.. High pitched screams... made me senstive get miragines.. Want to be QUIET..

I admit I do little bit missing what I want hear like normal sounds voice and rest others too.. And also want to be part work "White Collar workforce" where there's requirements use telephone high communcation! Damn that.. Have to find another way where I find proprite suitable fits me in workplace?? Still hunting a job..

I do feel concern about Barriers.. that BIG KEY missing out lot of lack education them peoples and to get know more... I'm getting feel tired of being education them over over over... goes for square 1.. That pain ass.. Which is my missing pointless about it..

I'm certinally happy way who am I Deaf!?.. Yes I do.. but wishes could love to hear little more normal sounds... espically NOT YELLING OR HIGH PITCH SCREAMS.. *scoff chuckles*

My understanding is.. your comment quite very good and excellent thread what talk your emotions feelins what do you have missing out.. ?

Its really sucks to lose your hearing. I just hope when the day i die i go upstairs and tell a guardian angel i wanna go back and be reborn again i dont wanna go up to heaven yet. When i get 90% the things down on earth then ill go. This time i wanna be reborn healthy and perfect. I cant accept deafness or blindness but only when im in my 60s.

I am missing out on hearing Faith Hill's songs, even through I love her songs the words in the songs. I have to live with the fact that I am deaf and nothing I can do to change that. Hope in Heaven I could hear Faith Hill's songs. :fingersx:

One, I miss is clothes designer. Its my dream wish but it´s not fit for deafness.

It would be nicer to hear my children´s voice and listen their children gossip.

This is a life, I accept and happy what I am.
