Another interesting fact he told me is that there is a huge Deaf Mafia running right now. Do you know where?

If they're Italians- I'm not suprised (no offense to anyone)

Italians are known to form a mafia, unless someone proves me wrong. And, no I don't watch too much "The Sopranos" shows

I know a Deaf EMT in Phoenix, AZ. Dang, I don't remmy his name.

Anyway, speaking of Deaf Mafia, yes it is true because I heard it through a friend of mine who have some hearing Italian relatives who involved in Mafia years ago. I believe it must be established in Buffalo, but I am not sure. It is really small group.

I was also told that Godfather Joseph Bonanno in NYC (now he was decreased one year ago) used a Deaf courier to carry some packages to some places without FBI agents' knowledge.

My maternal grandma (I am not related to her cuz I am adopted) had a male cousin in the Genovese family, but she never got involved with her cousin because of the age of 20 years apart. She was warned by her father about him when she was a little girl. I found out a few months later after my grandma's death. She never talked about him at all when she was alive.

Last, not at least, I heard some rumors that I am really related to the most famous Mafia gangster who was killed years ago. I have to investigate my family tree and find out if it is valid. Speaking of two gangsters, I prefer not to reveal these names here.

For the safety of the Deaf people involved in military duty, they wouldn't let the public know Deaf people can be part of the military as a real and civilian soldiers.

One of the CIA members is a CODA. He was running a project that has a group of Deaf soldiers who go on secret missions. Because sounds are easily detected and flashing lights to each other are too obvious. So they use night vision goggles and watch each other sign back and forth in the black of the night.

Believe this, I heard this from a well-known Deaf Historian. I am with-holding his name because I don't have his permission to share it.

interesting Deaf258 and im not surprised the military wouldnt release the names of the deaf who are either sworn or civilian personnel -- as for the deaf mafia -- yes ive heard of them myself and from what i understood it is somewhere in the state of Mississippi :dunno: if im accurate on this info tho cuz i heard of this YEARS ago so i dont know if this is still accurate

Yes, remmy, not just Italian mafia. There are other mafias: Chinese, Russian, Sicilian, and a few of other. Sicilian mafia was orginated around the 12th or 13th century (unless I am mistaken on accuracy of years).

yea but Oddball -- Deaf258 was asking specifically of a DEAF mafia as opposed to the hearies

I was in my EMT class today, and there is a paper about any special requirements you need to take the tests. I guess being deaf is cool. Today, there are machines to take blood pressure, so you can us the machine rather than a stethescope. Only thing is listening to lung sounds. That, a deafie can't do. But, if the deafie works with a hearie, I don't think the EMS board will have a problem. I would be more than happy to work with a deafie.

WOW! I never knew about that. That does change my thinking. Thank you for educating me.

Okay, here's the info on the Deaf Mafia I was talking about. It is in Russia. Because of the end of Cold War, jobs got harder to find for the Deafies and the SSI was like 10 bucks or less a month. Most of them turned to the Mafia life, dealing with money, prostitution and drugs. They get more moolah this way.

Makes me wonder what will happen to us in USA if they ever cut SSI.

KingCobra -- yep its Kelby :D

Neato!

Kelby and I used to be suitemates in one of dorms on Gally campus
and we were friends. We worked together in couple of students organizations (Student Body Government and Greek Council) and a few ad hoc committees which were set up by university. He was a great guy to work with and I enjoyed working with him. I was glad to know him as my friend.

When I found out that he was running for one of the Prince George's County Council seats a few years ago, I e-mailed him to wish him best of luck. He replied to my e-mail to see how I was doing and what I was up to.

Let me tell ya something that I never forgot that he was a very dedicated Risk player. At one time, I walked past his room where he shared with his old MSSD friend and I saw them playing Risk with Kelby's girlfriend and another friend. I went to bed bit early and got up bit early. They were still playing that game when I came to say good morning to them. I asked Kelby what was up with playing that game for a long time and Kelby grinned and said to me, "We got used to it because we played RISK for 5, 6 or 7 hours all the time." I was bit flabbergasted and watched them playing while chatting with them.

What a great guy Kelby was!

KingCobra! HISSS!!!
