Finding a job of my desire was my important reason of my absence. I had to spend so much of my time trying to find IT position which is very rare these days. Hopefully I will not disappear on you all again. I told Alex earlier in email that I do not want to be a moderator until I find it appropriate to do so. I sure do miss AllDeaf!!! :(

Heh...it's nice to have another system administrator freak around those days. Welcome back. :D

so are you the only deaf employee in the company? How was the interview process?

I am now living in Dover, Delaware. I am currently regaining my CyberSpace habit. So, whats up in the CyberWorld?

I am one of seven deaf employees in the Milford's site. Six out of seven are working on production floor as filing, clerk and data entry operators. I am not sure on how many deaf employees there are worldwide.

Interview process involves psychological questions such as:
-"If the LAN is down and employees are complaining, will you be able to deal with pressure?"
-"If you were given two different assignments with same deadline, how will you handle it?"
-"What is your biggest weakness?" *ugh*
-"What would another employee say about you in your previous job?"

And technical questions such as:
-"What is the difference between TCP/IP and IPX?"
-"How do you migrate from Access Database mdb files to SQL's ASP files?"
-"What is the difference between bash shell scripting and korn? And tell me the benefit for each."

and so on---

Mmm...sounds like that interview required both MS Windows and Linux/Unix familiarity.

You have a degree or certifications?

One of the hardest questions I had before I took on a network administrator job in the US Marshals dept of the DOJ building...was..

If there was a successful hacking attempt that took over at least half of our systems.....how would you respond to this problem?

Yep. A multiplatform of Windows NT/2000 pro/XP & Pro, HP UX, and unices variants.

None. Pure knowledge since childhood. Started out with Commodore 64 and QWbasic. Intensively gained knowledge when Linux 0.99 came out. Fiddled around with SMB's and booted Windows machines from Linux server using floppy disks. Used bash scripting shell for Windows login batches using cgywins.

8 major backbones -- ouch -- It's like unpluging lifesupport from an healthy individual with bad fever.

Too many of the offices are dependable on the major network infrastructure for you to just pull the plug on it.

My answer were series of questions to find out what the network infrastructure was. I never actually gave out the answer he wanted to hear....and then few months later on the job...I learned from him that he was looking for someone who never makes assumptions based on small piece of information. Whew.

Yep. Interview is based on that. Glad I got interview training from corporate recuriter with over 15 years of experience. The ability to think it through strategically is what they are looking for.
