let's talk car security and anti theft

I think a great way to prevent theft is not to have an interesting target.

There are things one should not do, such as leave valuables in their vehicles, leave them unlocked, and so on.

I noticed my ex 65 VW bus's driver door was opened, wondered if I did locked it last time. I walked toward a bus to see if the stuffs inside the bus missing or something. I found out the blanket on the front full seat (front cab) was missing
and other valuabled tools were there. But why blanket? The blanket was gifted from my grandmother that she made it as a quilted blanket. Damn. Last one line, that was how the vent window opened easy. I did locked.

I used a steering wheel lock for my ex 71 VW Super Bug after recovery stolen
car.
I still use a brake pedal lock for my current old Nova.

Wait! You said female? And the distributors and cables went missing?

I smell something, and it is not stolen, it is RETALATION! Guess they got ex boyfriend that got pissed off at breaks up or rejections, I bet these jerks would do these stuff so that woman can't figure out whats wrong. SMH

Maybe, 3 distibutors were stolen from 3 different Hondas ( 2 Accords and one Civic)

Yeah, its always maybe. BTW you mention about catalytic converters. Yes it is true. I took it out from my old pu truck including engine, tranny, transfer case, to my surprise when I attempt sell my skeleted truck the guy was pissed off for coming down with towing truck. I just hand him the title and let it go. At that time I had no idea why he was so pissed off. I sold the motor, the tranny was shot so I scrapped it. To my surprise when I scrap the catalytic converter, I got fat cash just for catalytic, the rest is just few dollars. I did research and discover why. It contains very expensive metal in it which called platinium. No wonder why they are target for thieves.

That sucks! I would be pissed off because it is priceless.

I believe the they boosted the cat converters from the vehicles to make their vehicles to pass smog checks. Happened to me last couple of years ago at the station, I picked up the RO paper, stated louds from under the car and check exhaust system. I think it was a 2002 Toyota Sienna. I went to checking the under of the vehicle, and found a cat converter was gone. I see the clean cutted ends of the exhaust pipes, believed the thief used a pipe cutter to cut the cat converter.
In Calif, the metal recycler firms are required to check driver licenses for cash on metals like cat converters.

Though I was late posting it cuz I was on vacation and busy working when I return.

I do have car/truck security system with Remote start up to 1,000 ft. It have two way system with LCD status screen with lighted color coded.

Those system are from kit I got from Christmas two years ago.

Features:
*two way system to notify you status of car
*3 color coded onscreen remote notification (red, green, yellow)
*remote start with notification up to 1,000 ft
*rolls up power window if left unattended
*ignition cut off via remote
*motion detection system (optional)
*microwave sensing system to sense movement (optional)
*keyless door lock/unlock
and several features

It is called Spy automotive security system. It is a nice system I have

BUT.........

After I pre-wired the 2005 Dodge Durango and ended up suspending work over one thing.

It's a ignition sensing system that I have biggest issue with!!!!

Usually it is instructed to wrap wire 4 or 5 times on any sparkplug wire.

Guess what, my durango have Coil On Plug system and there's no way to wrap around it. I've tried after the guy emailed me my question and advised me to wrap it on COP tube. It still don't work, (I've tested it with remote start and it won't work). on other thought, If I measure the output voltage from wire wrapped around sparkplug wire, I would match it up and build one that connect it from Tachometer wire to ignition sensing wire in a way it should work. That's my theory.

I realized that the security system is for any automotive with sparkplug wires, not COP!!

Since it's 2 years old and it's not worth turning it back. The kits are in the box and I still have wire hanging out uncovered.

I planned to buy Remote Start system with security made for Dodge Durango. Oh well

I helped my friend to installed alarm system on his Dodge RAM 2000 (not sure for year)with COP. So he have no problem with start-up remote. The coil pack and COP are same thing for low side volts. I just plugged the alarm system's wire inside the COP's low side volt plug. No problem at all.

Not surprised, here in NYS, all metal scrap peddlers are required to show ID cards if pay out is more than 50 dollars for any kind of metals. I had to show my ID when I sold the catalytic converter.

C4 plastic explosive hindden in body with hidden kill switch will stop people from stealing your car.... If they do.. you'll know who did it....

...just don't forget to disarm it before you drive it...

My car has never stolen yet for 20 yrs. I don't need car alarm system. I used a quick release steering wheel.

I am sure all brand new cars have alarm systems as a standard but hey, at least you can get the tips to ensure the car is safe from theives. Espiscally old cars - I remember my old s/wagon has the loudest alarm system.

I am not getting a brand new car now cuz I dont want another high car payment like I did for hte past 5 years. Putting luxury on HOLD to pay off other bills. i dont want to be drowning in debt for the rest of my life so I am willing to make a sacrific.

Brand new cars have alarm systems don't mean more security because almost all of them are same design of alarm system. I can find alarm system info from alldata.com to know how to repair but that's mean theft know how to steal.

I prefer buy car without alarm system and use aftermarket alarm system and theft can't figure it out what brand it was.

I have alarm system installed for my 1998 Dodge Grand Canavan. But someone had complained me to hear alarm beep and I forget to turn off alarm. Now I won't buy new alarm system for other car or SUV. I had purchased new Honda CR-V which including anti-theft systems. Extra alarm system is not necessary.

Did police find your SUV yet? You don't buy other vehicle right now till waiting in few weeks to get it or not.

I REFUSE to be stupid enough to buy another vehicle when my loan for this stolen one hasnt been paid off by the insurance yet.

no. the modern cars have fob system which changes security code every few seconds/minutes/hours/days.... which means nearly every car has different security code. if the robber has source code - then you are screwed.
